Anker Power Banks Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Anker is a Shenzhen-based phone and computer accessories manufacturer. The company recently announced a recall of three backup battery models: Power Bank, 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K) and MagGo Power Bank manufactured between January 3 and September 17 and sold in Vietnam. All have manufacturing defects that can cause the lithium-ion battery to overheat, melting the plastic components inside and potentially causing a fire or explosion.

Although no accidents have been recorded, the company still issued a recall notice when the error was discovered.

It is known that the Power Bank backup battery model with code name A1647, capacity 20,000 mAh is priced at 1.38 million VND; the 334 MagGo Battery battery model with code name A1642, capacity 10,000 mAh, is priced at 1 million VND and the MagGo Power Bank battery model with code name A1652, capacity 10,000 mAh is priced at 1.4 million VND. Users can check by looking at the bottom of the battery charger to find the code number.

The company said the cause of the error stemmed from a change in supplier and that it was reviewing to ensure a similar situation did not occur.

If you own one of the three backup battery models mentioned above, you should not use it, keep it in a safe place and return it through the website provided by the manufacturer. In particular, do not throw the backup battery in the trash or recycling bin.

Previously, in 2016, the company also had to recall a series of USB-C charging cables due to manufacturing defects, causing damage to connected devices.
