Five months after joining AS Monaco, Pogba finally made his debut for the French club. |
Paul Pogba entered the field in the final minutes of Monaco's 1-4 loss to Rennes in the 13th round of Ligue 1 on the morning of November 23. The former MU and Juventus star was brought onto the field in the 85th minute and received a warm applause from the audience at Roazhon Park.
He knelt down and kissed the grass of the pitch as if to mark the important moment. The French midfielder opened up in the post-match press conference: "Football is not over for me. I have worked and waited for more than two years to return. No matter what happens, no matter what happens outside of football, I am the one who is hurt the most."
He also affirmed that he had been waiting for this day for a long time, even though there were moments when the "demon" inside whispered in his ear that "everything is over". Pogba also said that he did nothing wrong. "It's not my fault. I never lost hope", he affirmed.
The Ligue 1 match in round 13 was a big turning point for the French midfielder. Pogba came on the field when the game was decided. Monaco were 4 goals behind Rennes and had to play with one less man after midfielder Denis Zakaria was sent off in the 66th minute.
Rennes took the lead through goals from Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, Mahdi Camara, Breel Embolo and Ludovic Blas. Monaco only managed to get a consolation goal through Mika Biereth after Pogba came on.
In the short time he played, Pogba played hard. He had a 93% passing accuracy, touched the ball 17 times but did not have a successful dribble or a shot.
