On the morning of October 8, the staff of the coffee shop at 8/165 Thai Ha (Dong Da, Hanoi ) were busy cleaning up after a day of flooding. Heavy rains caused by the influence of storm Matmo caused the area in front of the shop to be deeply flooded, at times reaching 50-60cm high. Water flooded into the shop. The shop's business activities were stagnant.

"In the past month, since its opening (late August), the cafe has suffered three floods due to the impact of storm Ragasa (August 26), storm Bualoi (September 30) and storm Matmo (October 7). The water level inside the cafe was about 60cm and even reached 90cm on September 30," said Mr. Hieu Nguyen, co-founder of the cafe.

"When we were looking for a location here, we had no idea there would be flooding after such heavy rains. The deep flooding caused severe damage to the restaurant's equipment and interior. In addition, after each flood, the restaurant had to close for 4-5 days for cleaning, so the economic loss was also great," said Mr. Hieu.

After the first time of sudden flooding, the next two times, when hearing the storm forecast, this coffee shop proactively raised its equipment to minimize damage. However, the three consecutive deep floods caused water to seep from the floor to the wall, making it very difficult to handle. The flood on September 30 lasted for two consecutive days.

"In the past few days, many customers and friends have contacted us to inquire about the condition of the restaurant. We have come up with a plan to repair the situation to prevent water from entering. The investment cost for the restaurant is quite large, so we cannot leave. We will try to fix it to soon bring the most comfortable space to customers," said Mr. Hieu.

Images of the flooded cafe were shared rapidly on social media. Netizens called it "the most miserable cafe in Hanoi" because it had just opened and suffered 3 consecutive serious floods.

On October 7, many restaurants and cafes in the Thai Ha area had to close and cease operations due to the impact of deep flooding after the rain. By the morning of October 8, the water had almost completely receded, and business activities were gradually returning to normal.

Hidden in a small, narrow, dark and old alley, a coffee shop in Hanoi still attracts international customers thanks to its prime balcony, allowing easy views of the beautiful, colorful streets.
