
Movies Ky Nam Restaurant just released a teaser trailer and a poetic teaser poster. Filmed entirely on 35mm film, the film marks the return of the two main actors - Do Thi Hai Yen and Lien Binh Phat and director Leon Le ( Song Lang ).
Love in poetry and music, the sadder the better?
After the success of Song Lang (2018) with many awards at domestic and international film festivals, Leon Le back with the second movie. Ky Nam Restaurant Continuing his passion for memory, art and human intimacy, set in post-war Saigon in the 1980s.
The film had its world cinema premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the category Special Presentations (special screening); screening in the A Window on Asian Cinema section at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025; screening in the Special Presentations section at the Bangkok International Film Festival and competing at the Hawaii Film Festival (HIFF) 2025.

At these festivals, Quan Ky Nam received praise from international experts and audiences. They commented that the film is "emotionally subtle, visually polished" and "brings a very unique slice of Vietnamese cinema".
The teaser trailer is filled with poetic scenes and conversations, and eye contact between two characters: the young translator Khang (played by Lien Binh Phat) and the beautiful woman Ky Nam (Do Thi Hai Yen). role).
A line of Khang's taken from the book The Little Prince which he is translating: "To see through the core things, you cannot use your eyes, but your heart." And Ky Nam said: "Why is it that the sadder the love in poetry and music, the better it is?". Is this a prediction for their love?

Ky Nam Restaurant is set in Saigon in the 1980s.
The teaser trailer features many simple, familiar images of the residential area and Saigon streets more than 40 years ago. From the living space, sound, light to the rhythm of daily life, everything is meticulously depicted. The interior and exterior of the apartment building and the streets are realistically recreated.
Being selected to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is considered an important achievement for Vietnamese films. Films with strong Vietnamese cultural identity can be recognized internationally.

This project not only marks Leon Le's return to cinema after 7 years, but also that of Do Thi Hai Yen and Lien Binh Phat.
