According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, from June 27, the day the first outbreak of African swine fever occurred in Nghia Giang commune, to July 23, the epidemic has occurred in 2,354 livestock farms in 301 villages, 37 communes and wards and has been officially reported by localities. The total number of pigs infected with the disease and forced to be destroyed is 15,286/2,354 households, with a total weight of 848,984 kg.
Within 1 month since the outbreak, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Ngai province has provided 2,400 liters of disinfectant chemicals and 1,700 doses of African swine fever vaccine as requested by the locality to serve the work of disease prevention and control. The provincial agricultural sector assessed that the risk of African swine fever will continue to arise and spread, due to the pathogen circulating widely.
The reason is that the African swine fever virus has a very high resistance and persistence in the environment, leading to an outbreak of disease in livestock.
