(Baoquangngai.vn)- Blood test results from Nha Trang Pasteur Institute showed that a 17-month-old patient being treated at the provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital had measles.
On the afternoon of August 21, Director of the Department of Health Pham Minh Duc said that the province had just recorded the first measles case of 2024. This was a child who had returned to Quang Ngai from the epidemic area of Ho Chi Minh City and was recorded to have contracted the measles virus.
Previously, in the early morning of August 16, a child patient in An Ba village, Hanh Thinh commune (Nghia Hanh) was taken to the emergency room with a fever, skin rash, cough with phlegm, red eyes, and a lot of discharge.

Through medical history, medical examination and testing, doctors at the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital diagnosed the child with measles complicated by severe pneumonia and conjunctivitis. Therefore, doctors arranged an isolation treatment room, gave the patient oxygen, intravenous nutrition, antibiotics and symptomatic treatment.
After 5 days of treatment, the patient's health has stabilized, the fever has gone away and he continues to be monitored at the Department of Tropical Diseases (Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital).
According to the patient's family, before being admitted to the provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, the child had been treated at the City Children's Hospital in Binh Chanh District ( Ho Chi Minh City). This is a locality where measles is breaking out. The child had previously received a measles vaccine.
