Thai king appoints princess as army major general

The Royal Gazette of Thailand stated that King Maha Vajiralongkorn decided to appoint Princess Rajakanya (second daughter) to take on the role of an expert, holding the rank of major general in the army.

The decision to appoint his 36-year-old daughter was announced by King Maha Vajiralongkorn on March 10 during a promotion ceremony for members of the Thai armed forces.

King Vajiralongkorn's appointment takes effect from April 1.

Princess Sirivannavari graduated with a master's degree in design from the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la couture Parisienne (ECSCP) in Paris (France) with the desire to become a fashion designer and own her own brand called "Sirivannavari".

A long-time supporter of the Thai silk industry, Princess Sirivannavari has incorporated several traditional Thai elements into her designs, reflecting her own unique style of dress.

She was also an athlete , representing Thailand in badminton at the 2005 Sea Games and won a gold medal in the team event.

In a recent interview, Princess Sirivannavari (commonly known as Siri) asserted that she is a hard-working person and does not just hang around the Royal Palace.

Bloomberg quoted Princess Sirivannavari as saying: "I want to be a successful designer. I am a fighter and I want my designs to be in department stores and stores because of the quality of the brand, not because of my title. I also want to show that a princess can work. This is me. I want to work."

Princess Sirivannavari is the second daughter of King Vajiralongkorn's seven children. Her older sister, Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, was hospitalized in December 2022 and remains in a coma due to cardiovascular problems.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha is the oldest of the seven children that King Vajiralongkorn has from three marriages. According to Bloomberg , she is considered a potential heir to the Thai throne. If she ascends the throne, Princess Bajrakitiyabha will become the first woman to head the monarchy in Thai history.
