Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that from September 5 to the end of 2023, the railway will apply a fee of up to 20% for changing and returning regular train tickets, depending on the return time and ticket type.

Accordingly, on the North-South route, for Thong Nhat trains and regional trains such as Hanoi to Vinh, Dong Hoi and vice versa, Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Nang and vice versa, individual ticket changes are not allowed when changing 24 hours before the train departs, and when returning tickets less than four hours before the train departs. When changing tickets 24 hours or more before the train departs, the deduction fee is 20,000 VND/ticket; when returning tickets from four hours to less than 24 hours in advance, the deduction fee is 20% of the ticket price, from 24 hours or more is 10%.
For group tickets, ticket changes are not allowed; ticket refunds are not allowed less than 24 hours before train departure. When changing tickets from 24 hours to less than 72 hours before train departure, the deduction fee is 20% of the price, 72 hours or more in advance is 10%.
Also for these train brands, when customers buy individual tickets far from the date, the discount policy is applied, the railway has its own regulations on changing and returning tickets. Specifically, for individual tickets purchased 5-9 days in advance, they will get a 5% discount and for tickets purchased 10-19 days in advance, they will get a 10% discount. When changing or returning tickets, the fee is deducted as for regular tickets. When buying 20-39 days in advance, they will get a 20% discount and 40 days or more in advance, they will get a 30% discount. When changing or returning tickets, the deduction is equivalent to the discount but must be changed or returned 72 hours or more before the train departs.
Hanoi - Lao Cai train applies the same ticket exchange and return regulations as regular train tickets on the North - South route.
The Hanoi - Hai Phong train applies separate regulations. Specifically, individual tickets cannot be exchanged or returned 30 minutes before the train departs. From 30 minutes or more, the ticket exchange deduction is 10,000 VND/ticket, and the ticket return is 10% of the price. For group tickets, ticket exchanges are not allowed; tickets cannot be returned less than 24 hours before the train departs. When returning tickets 24 hours or more before the train departs, the deduction is 10%.
The railway also stipulates that for exchanged individual tickets, if passengers continue to need to return the ticket, the return fee is 30% of the ticket price.
During this period, the railway still applies a discount policy for passengers such as: Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, people with disabilities, the elderly, students, union members, passengers with customer cards... Children under 6 years old traveling with adults are exempt from tickets; children from 6 years old to under 10 years old are entitled to a 25% discount on ticket prices...
