The attractiveness of An Giang's investment environment is demonstrated by the fact that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the investment policies for 29 projects with a total capital of nearly 162,000 billion VND. At the same time, the province has granted memoranda of understanding for investment research to 24 strategic investors with an initial registered capital of approximately 1.5 million billion VND. This is an unprecedented scale of registered capital, showing the growing confidence and interest of the business community in the local development potential.
Among its large-scale projects, Sun Group has signed cooperation agreements for more than 10 projects in Phu Quoc with a total investment of nearly 100,000 billion VND. These projects are comprehensively planned, focusing on developing strategic infrastructure such as cross-island transportation axes, international seaports, airports, and a modern public transportation system. Upon completion, these projects will contribute to expanding development space, forming a chain of new urban areas, service centers, and economic hubs, laying the foundation for Phu Quoc to become an international tourism, trade, and financial center.
According to Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, Phu Quoc is facing a historic opportunity to reposition its role on the regional and global economic map. Being selected to host the APEC 2027 conference will create a strong boost in infrastructure, branding, and attracting international investment. With its strategic location in the Gulf of Thailand and unique marine and island ecosystem, Phu Quoc has all the conditions to develop into an international-class tourism, trade, finance, and resort center.
Mr. Dang Minh Truong also proposed several specific mechanisms for the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, such as establishing an island-wide free trade zone; developing an international medical and educational tourism center; and piloting a "green channel investment" mechanism for high-tech, medical, educational, and high-quality tourism sectors. In addition, he suggested policies to attract international experts through flexible long-term residency mechanisms for foreign workers and the development of a green economy linked to the conservation of primary forests and marine ecosystems.
Agreeing with the province's development orientation to become a major center for marine economy, coastal and island tourism, and an important logistics hub in the region, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Phuong - Director of Viettel An Giang Construction Branch, said: “The new plan will open up many opportunities for the construction sector. Synchronized planning, resources, and inter-regional connectivity will create conditions for businesses to implement modern infrastructure projects, smart cities, and large-scale construction solutions, contributing to promoting trade and improving the quality of life for the people. We are focusing on developing the “smart green building” model, combining civil construction with clean energy solutions, especially rooftop solar power, right from the design and construction stages. This model not only helps optimize operating costs but also creates a modern, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly living space.”
According to Mr. Le Thai Chan, Director of Viettel Post An Giang, the new plan will expand the development space for logistics and trade, especially in border economic zones, new urban areas, and inter-regional trade routes. With an increasingly complete infrastructure system, businesses will have more opportunities to expand warehouses, transit centers, and modern delivery networks, enhancing their cargo handling capacity. The development of e-commerce, industry, and import/export will also create strong growth momentum for logistics services, express delivery, and cross-border transportation.
However, despite its great potential and opportunities, An Giang still faces many bottlenecks that need to be addressed, such as investment, construction, and land management procedures; governance capacity; transportation infrastructure; access to capital; and specific difficulties in the tourism, agriculture, and fisheries sectors. While linkages between key urban centers have been established, their effectiveness has not yet matched their potential.
