On April 27, the Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 902/ATTP-KN to the Department of Health of Phu Tho province and the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Phu Tho province regarding the review and recall of fake MSG products of Famimoto Vietnam Company Limited.
The document stated: Recently, the Food Safety Department received information from some electronic newspapers about the Phu Tho Provincial Police discovering fake MSG products of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. (address: Dong Doi area, Thuy Van commune, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province).
Accordingly, the Food Safety Department requested the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Health and the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene to review the self-declaration records of MSG products of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd.; coordinate with local competent authorities to recall all fake MSG products of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. currently on the market; coordinate with the Police to handle and resolve according to the provisions of law.
At the same time, it is necessary to advise people and collective kitchen organizations not to use fake MSG products of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. in food production and business.
Previously, Phu Tho Provincial Police raided and urgently searched the factory and warehouse of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Thuy Van commune, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province) and discovered and temporarily seized more than 71,000 liters of cooking oil, about 40 tons of MSG (monosodium glutamate), 22 tons of seasoning powder, and 9 tons of fake broth powder.
Initial investigations determined that the company had released 144 tons of cooking oil, 118 tons of seasoning powder, and 363 tons of fake seasoning powder to the market. These products are often sold to industrial kitchens, posing a risk to the health of workers.
Counterfeit products include: Boat Brand MSG - a brand originating from Singapore and Famimoto MSG - a Vietnamese MSG brand, Japanese technology.
Boat Brand cooking oil - a brand from Singapore and Fami Gold vegetable oil - produced from 100% imported ingredients from Singapore.
Hanoi premium seasoning powder and Hong Viet Kitchen seasoning powder, packed in plastic bags with specifications of 400g/bag for seasoning powder and 5kg/bag for seasoning powder.
The products are all self-declared by the Company. However, the results of the appraisal by the Institute of Criminal Science, Ministry of Public Security on the ingredients, quantitative and qualitative nutritional value of the products do not meet the standards declared by the Company or the standards stated on the label.
