Many toxic substances are found in electronic cigarettes.

Due to the high risk of impact on human health and the diverse, complex and uncontrollable nature, many governments have issued regulations to manage or completely ban flavors in electronic cigarettes.

There needs to be more competitions about tobacco and e-cigarettes to raise knowledge and awareness in preventing the harmful effects of tobacco.

Studies worldwide show that at least 60 chemical compounds have been found in e-cigarette solutions and many other compounds are present in the aerosol/smoke produced from e-cigarettes.

The ingredients of e-cigarette solution also contain glycerin (causing fatty lung inflammation, skin, eye, lung irritation), propylene glycol (causing respiratory tract and eye irritation, causing cancer, asthma), and can also form propylene oxide, a carcinogen when heated and vaporized. Propylene glycol when heated also creates methyl glyoxal that causes diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. Glycerin when heated and vaporized forms acrolein, causing dry mouth and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

Toxic substances found in e-cigarette solutions and vapors include: ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, aldehydes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, toluene, nitrosamines, especially carcinogenic nitrosamines, acrolein (causes irritation of the airways, digestive tract and eyes, atherosclerosis), formaldehyde (causes bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma), hydroxycarbonyls, acetaldehyde (causes cancer, liver damage), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (causes cancer)...

In addition, some metals such as lead (damage to the brain, kidneys, blood, increase blood pressure), chromium (causes inflammation, irritation of the airways, ulcers or atrophy of the nasal mucosa, reproductive/childbirth problems), cadmium (increases the risk of lung cancer, irritation of the respiratory tract), nickel (causes cancer, damage to the lungs and brain, liver, kidneys), formaldehyde have levels equivalent to or higher than those of regular cigarettes.

Some users have mixed vitamin E acetate and tetrahydrocannabinol into e-cigarettes. This is a psychoactive substance found in cannabis, which is believed to be responsible for thousands of cases of lung damage. Although vitamin E acetate is safe when consumed as a food or cosmetic product, the effects of inhaling vitamin E acetate are not fully understood. Several countries have banned vitamin E acetate.

To hide the harshness of nicotine, making the product more pleasant, easier to inhale and creating an attractive flavor, attracting users, especially young people, manufacturers also use many types of flavors such as: mint, apple, orange, lemon... in electronic cigarettes.

A sample of e-cigarette liquid was found to contain synthetic drugs.

The e-cigarette industry is the place where flavorings are used the most in today's life. It is estimated that every month in the world, about 242 new flavoring chemicals are created... And it has also been proven to have serious impacts on health, such as causing bronchiolitis obliterans (popcorn lung, irreversible); flavorings cause oxidative stress, release inflammatory cytokines, reduce phagocytic capacity, reduce inflammatory response in the respiratory tract, in experimental cytotoxicity, damage to the vascular endothelium, promote fibrotic lesions.

Some flavorings used in e-cigarettes have been shown to increase the toxicity of the product. Additionally, heating the metal coils in e-cigarettes creates aerosols containing a variety of heavy metals, including cadmium, lead, nickel, tin, manganese, selenium, zinc, and copper. Thousands of solutions contain inappropriate flavorings, and in inappropriate concentrations, which can lead to negative health effects.

With thousands of flavoring chemicals, changing according to manufacturers, tastes, regions, trends... over time and creating a huge amount of chemicals. When heated or burned at different temperatures, it will create many times more chemicals as intermediate combustion products, final combustion products, many times more than regular cigarettes. Therefore, the risk of harm to health is very high.

Not only chemicals, in recent years, many types of drugs have been added to electronic cigarettes to increase the feeling of being high and attract and entice users. Initially, cannabis essential oils and substances from cannabis plants were added to electronic cigarettes.

In recent years, many new drugs have appeared in electronic cigarettes, especially hundreds of new generation synthetic drugs belonging to the group of synthetic cannabis. This is the largest new generation drug group, with the largest number of substances, constantly being created and changed beyond the control lists. Synthetic drugs are strong toxins to the nervous system, the mind, the cardiovascular system and multiple organs, very different depending on the specific substance.

Testing to detect all synthetic cannabis drugs is completely impossible for all the leading laboratories in the world. In particular, testing for new drugs can only be done with specialized testing equipment, so at border gates, raw materials and products of synthetic cannabis drugs can easily be transported without being detected. Then, electronic cigarettes are the main container and circulation of synthetic cannabis drugs.

Due to the high risk of impact on human health and the diverse, complex and uncontrollable nature, many governments have issued regulations to manage or completely ban flavors in electronic cigarettes.
