Patients with diabetes and metabolic disorders increased 3 times

According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), in Vietnam, the rate of diabetes and metabolic disorders has tripled over the past 20 years.

On November 15, in Da Nang City, the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes (VADE) in collaboration with the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies (AFES) organized the 23rd Conference of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies with the theme of Endocrine diseases, diabetes, metabolic disorders and digital technology .

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there are currently more than 589 million adults in the world living with diabetes. This number is expected to increase to 853 million by 2050.

In Vietnam, the prevalence of diabetes and metabolic disorders has tripled over the past 20 years, with an estimated more than 5.7 million adults suffering from the disease, of which nearly half are undiagnosed.

Along with that, thyroid diseases, obesity, lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasingly common, creating a great burden on the health system and society.

In that context, AFES 2025 is organized with the aim of enhancing regional cooperation, sharing knowledge and updating the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and management of endocrine-metabolic diseases, while promoting the application of digital technology in modern medicine.

The conference focused on exploiting the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, internet of things (IoT) and cloud computing to improve the efficiency of management, prevention and patient healthcare.

The conference took place in a vibrant academic space with scientific reporting sessions, in-depth topics, research posters and exhibitions of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, opening up opportunities for exchange, cooperation and technology transfer between Southeast Asian countries.

Professor - Doctor - Doctor Tran Huu Dang, President of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies, President of the Vietnam Endocrine and Diabetes Association, shared: "AFES 2025 is not only a place to meet and share expertise, but also a bridge for cooperation between countries in the region. We expect this year's conference to contribute to promoting scientific research, training specialized human resources and applying technological achievements to improve the quality of health care for Southeast Asian people in the digital age."

Held every 2 years on a rotational basis among the federation members, the conference is the most prestigious regional scientific event in the field of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolic disorders in Southeast Asia.

With more than 270 reports and nearly 100 international reporters, the conference gathered more than 500 international delegates and more than 1,200 domestic delegates, including professors, doctors, scientists and leading experts in the region and the world such as the US, Germany, Italy, France, Australia, India, Bangladesh...
