Real Madrid surplus crisis

Real Madrid are focused on selling players, as their squad has grown to more than 25 players, a number too high for coach Xabi Alonso's liking.

Brahim Diaz will not have a place in Real Madrid's starting line-up in the 2025/26 season.

Real Madrid's board of directors has listed candidates for sale, including Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Dani Ceballos, Rodrygo Goes and Brahim Diaz.

Among them, coach Xabi Alonso frankly told Diaz that the player will not have a place in Real Madrid's starting lineup in the 2025/26 season. Real Madrid will consider offers for Rodrygo, but the 100 million euro price tag set by the La Liga club makes many teams hesitant.

As for Mendy, this defender became redundant after the arrival of Carreras, when "Los Blancos" prioritized using Fran Garcia to compete with this new recruit. Alaba is currently only 5th in the priority order for the center-back position, behind Huijsen, Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and Raul Asencio.

Real Madrid's medical team have also expressed concerns about his injury status over the past 18 months. If Alaba cannot be sold this summer, Real will likely let him go when his contract expires next summer.
