VnExpressVnExpress06/05/2023

Ho Chi Minh City A 45-year-old man had difficulty having sex, and was diagnosed with erectile dysfunction due to long-term use of e-cigarettes.

On May 5, Dr. Vu Duc Cong, Men's Health Center, said that the patient shared that he had previously used e-cigarettes because he thought they did not affect his health as much as traditional cigarettes, and partly because he wanted to follow a new trend. Unexpectedly, he became addicted after smoking e-cigarettes for a few years.

After a while, when having sex, his genitals had difficulty getting erect, so he had to use erectile dysfunction medication. As a result, he continued to use erectile dysfunction medication and continued to smoke e-cigarettes, making it even more difficult for him to get into bed and had to go to the hospital for an examination. Doctor Cong diagnosed the patient with erectile dysfunction due to long-term smoking.

In recent years, e-cigarettes have been considered a substitute for conventional cigarettes. However, doctors say that e-cigarettes pose many potential risks to male physiology. One of the potential harms is erectile dysfunction in men because the chemicals in e-cigarettes can reduce blood flow to the penis.

The doctor used low-frequency shock waves to reactivate erectile tissue in the genitals, along with medication to support erections. After three months of treatment combined with quitting e-cigarettes, the patient's genitals have gradually returned to normal .

According to studies, in addition to causing erectile dysfunction, e-cigarettes can lead to respiratory problems such as shortness of breath, cough, pneumonia and lung cancer. E-cigarettes are also harmful to the cardiovascular system such as increasing blood pressure and stroke. Smoking e-cigarettes every day can change the composition of bacteria in the mouth, causing oral infections and periodontitis.

To avoid erectile dysfunction and other health problems, doctors advise against using e-cigarettes. Maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid stimulants.
