On June 26, the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a closing ceremony and awarded prizes for the City's English Competition with the theme "English Film Festival for Primary School Students: My Hometown, My Inspiration" - My Hometown, My Inspiration: A Primary Student Film Festival in English.
Tears in many scenes
The footage shown at the closing ceremony was very emotional.
"Thanh An Island of love" by Thanh An Primary School, Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City was the first film to be screened at the ceremony.
The film won an encouragement prize but touched the hearts of viewers when it expressed the love for her homeland of a student who was raised in the island commune of Thanh An and then left her homeland for 8 years but still could not forget her nostalgia with love and filial piety for her parents.

The film depicts the real life of the people of Thanh An island commune. Following the memories of a child far from home, Thanh An island commune appears sincere and real through simple classrooms, dried fish specialties, salt fields and sunny tourist areas.
Life is still difficult, but the people in Thanh An island commune are always optimistic and warm-hearted, making viewers unable to hide their emotions with the nostalgia of the little student from years ago.
Another film, "Imprint" by Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, Tan Phu District, deeply touched many audiences present at the closing ceremony.
The film tells the memories of Hung - a famous pianist - when he was a primary school boy with a hard, difficult, and arduous life but full of humanity, friendship, teacher-student relationship, and mutual love and support from neighbors.
Many viewers were moved to tears by the scene where a primary school boy leaned his head on his mother's shoulder while she was exhausted from hard work and asked, "Mom, can I skip school to help you?"

However, under the warmth and protection of his mother's love, the help of his close friends, and the motivation of his mother's love, friendship, and homeland, the boy Hung gradually conquered his dream.
His childhood friends also wrote beautiful dreams of their lives. Along with the soundtrack, the film's content with many scenes made viewers burst into tears of emotion.
With "Imprint", Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, Tan Phu District, has reaped 6 awards: 1 award for excellent film content, 1 award for excellent film screening, 1 award for excellent and 1 first prize for actor in film screening, 1 award for excellent and 1 first prize for actor in film.

Mr. Le Huu Binh - Principal of Thanh An Primary School, Can Gio District - said: "Teachers and students, together with parents, have distilled and brought the love of Thanh An to the public.
This activity is really meaningful, not only improving English speaking ability but also helping students have the motivation and confidence to express themselves and make more progress in their studies."

Sharing the joy of winning the excellent prize of the contest, Ms. Luong Thi Thanh Ly - Principal of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, Tan Phu District - said that making the film not only has the meaning of enhancing English for students but also many other meanings.
These activities help students, teachers, parents, and school administrators connect more with each other; help schools and teachers discover more about students' abilities, creativity, and dedication in social and language activities...
"The script, ideas, actors, film settings..., music and film songs are all made by teachers in the school. The contest is truly an activity for schools to promote creativity in activities to enhance teaching and learning," Ms. Ly shared.
Value in teaching local educational content
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, highly appreciated all the English films participating in the city-level competition.
"The contest not only demonstrates the quality of English teaching in the city, but also provides a diverse, high-quality source of digital learning materials to serve local educational content teaching activities. At the same time, it is a meaningful playground and receives support from district units.
"The film products are not only valuable for the contest but also valuable in organizing teaching and learning of local educational content according to the 2018 General Education Program," said Mr. Quoc.
