"Basically nothing will change. Al Nassr, yes!", Ronaldo surprisingly answered the question about his future, after the UEFA Nations League final.
The Portuguese superstar continued: "I know I'm old, I'm closer to the finish line than the starting line. I'm still trying to enjoy every moment of playing football. If I don't have any other injuries, I'll continue playing."
With this statement, Ronaldo seems to have confirmed that he will renew his contract with Al Nassr Club. This is an extremely surprising decision because just a week ago, fans believed that the relationship between Ronaldo and the Saudi Arabian team had completely broken down.
Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in early 2023, with a record salary of 200 million euros/year. His contract will end on June 30.
After 3 seasons, Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al Nassr, reaching a form similar to his peak at Real Madrid.
However, Ronaldo has faced much criticism for not being able to help Al Nassr escape the situation of empty-handed titles. The Saudi Arabian team even fell behind in the domestic league rankings.
By the end of this season, Ronaldo's relationship with coach Stefano Pioli was seriously broken. According to media rumors, the 40-year-old superstar made demands, demanding that the team's board of directors fire coach Pioli and replace the team's players before they would renew their contracts.
Not only that, Al Nassr also intends to reduce Ronaldo's salary, instead compensating him with a share of the team.
The relationship between Ronaldo and Al Nassr has been getting worse over time. He was constantly benched at the end of the season, and showed a sulky, angry attitude every time he played.
But with this surprising statement, it can be affirmed that Ronaldo and Al Nassr have found common ground. It is very likely that the two sides will finalize a contract extension plan in the near future.
