Recently, there have been many incidents related to bank cards, card links with other units such as Got It, Shopee... occurred. In early September, information about a cyber security incident at the National Credit Information Center (CIC) also caused a stir in public opinion. Many credit card users are worried that sensitive data may be exposed, leading to the risk of financial insecurity.
Customers "losing money" is no longer new, banks are indifferent!
The most recent story happened on October 19, Ms. NTL (living in Ho Chi Minh City) shared a status about the unfortunate case of losing her money. She said that she had just received a Platinum Debit card from a bank. Immediately after that, a person claiming to be a card employee called to confirm that the card had been received, and learned that Ms. NTL also wanted to open another card.
“Somehow, that employee knew all of my account balance information and told me that a credit officer would call to verify my application. A while later, an employee called and read out my personal information, then said that he would send an OTP to check my transaction limit,” she said.
Ms. NTL received the OTP and provided this code to the other party on the other line, then immediately her account lost 100 million VND. Ms. L immediately went to the bank to request a statement. She said, as soon as she went to the bank to tell her story, the security guard sympathized, and said that there were many cases of unjustly losing money.
She also said that after sharing her story on her personal page, she was surprised to receive many interactions. "Many people sympathized and said they had similar situations," she said. She also explained that she understood that she was careless, and that the bank statement, if it was not a "special case", had to wait until the next day, but the way "bank staff were indifferent to customers losing money" made her worried.
In another case, Ms. NHV, after using the wallet link from the bank to shop on the e-commerce platform, continuously received calls from morning to night. The first numbers of these "spam" calls were 038, 037 and 024, continuously calling using AI voice to ask for information. When Ms. NHV asked again, the other party did not answer, only repeated the questions, so she thought it was an automated call.
When she contacted the bank, the response was only that the number was not from the bank, with no further information.

At the beginning of the year, Mr. NQA also had the same problem, he felt that all his transactions and information at the bank were being monitored and known by others. He said that during this time, when he transferred a large amount of money to his account to prepare for notarization (to buy a house), he continuously received a series of fake calls and "spam" messages.
He was very careful, he ignored it and did not read the content, but at this stage he was extremely worried. He said he called the bank for advice, but the staff told him not to click on any links.

Regarding the unfortunate case of being scammed and losing money as above, lawyer Tran Viet Ha - Ha and Associates LLC Law Firm, Dak Lak Province Bar Association - said that when being scammed, it is very difficult to trace the money flow, not to mention that it is even more difficult to recover because the scammer quickly dispersed it.
Mr. Ha said that when people are cheated, the first thing that comes to mind is to go to the police. However, he said that we should be on our own guard and protect our assets. The lawyer emphasized that there are cases that cross borders so it is very difficult to trace and by the time the money is traced, it has already been dispersed.
From a professional perspective, cyber security expert Ngo Minh Hieu (Hieu PC) said that in the past, to commit cybercrime, one had to have knowledge and understanding of technology and computers. Nowadays, all you need is a phone to commit cybercrime.
Because according to Mr. Hieu PC, banking data and personal data can be bought and sold today. Not to mention, the emergence of many social networks has invisibly "opened the door" for cybercrime to take place, AI development makes behavior more sophisticated, people are more easily deceived.
Talking about the cause, Mr. Hieu PC said that Vietnamese people are too fast when using the internet, too fast to click on links. Therefore, to prevent, each person just needs to slow down. When facing any transaction that requires anything online, they must slow down, check...
