Useful playground for youth

In addition to the shock and volunteer movements to participate in socio-economic development, Tien Giang youth also promote their role in preserving national cultural identity in the context of international integration, enthusiastically participating in folk song and vọng cổ festivals.

Promoting the vanguard and volunteer role of union members and youth, especially the cultural and artistic movement, is one of the practical and useful activities to help union members and youth develop their collective living skills; at the same time, contributing to preserving and maintaining the cultural values of the nation such as folk songs and vọng cổ.

The smooth, deep melodies of the Ly songs, the Ho songs, and the Vong Co songs have been closely associated with the Mekong Delta countryside with the image of the simple and generous Southern people. In particular, the art of Don Ca Tai Tu of the South was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2012 and was honored by UNESCO as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2013.

Recently, Tien Giang Provincial Youth Union organized the 10th Tien Giang Province Folk Song and Vong Co Festival in 2023 with the participation of 17 competing teams from districts, cities, Town Unions and affiliated Youth Unions performing art performances associated with the outstanding features of each locality, love for the homeland, for Uncle Ho and the Communist Party of Vietnam ...

Through folk songs, folk songs and ancient songs, and traditional music melodies typical of regions across the country, the festival is also an environment for youth union members in all fields to exchange, share, and bring songs and voices to the people and the community.

Head of the Go Cong Town Culture and Arts Club, Vu Hung, said that through the "Youth singing folk songs and vọng cổ" Festival, he felt very happy and excited. From someone who knew nothing about vọng cổ, through this activity, he gained more knowledge about folk songs, especially vọng cổ. In addition, this activity not only helped him but also helped the entire Go Cong Town team to spread the image of the land and people of Go Cong, especially recreating the character of Truong Dinh through the excerpt "Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai".

Tran Thi Kim Thoa, a member of the My Tho Youth Union, shared: I have been passionate about Cai Luong, Vong Co, folk songs, and Ly melodies since I was a child, through the times I listened to them on the radio and cassette tapes with my grandparents. From then on, I explored and sang along with the artists. In the current period, young people are less interested in traditional music and opera genres, but tend to listen to and learn modern music genres. I hope that there will be more competitions, playgrounds, and training classes on traditional Vietnamese art forms, in order to develop and honor the national cultural traditions.

Nguyen Thanh Luan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of Tien Giang Province, said: The organization of the "Youth singing folk songs and vọng cổ" festival aims to promote and preserve the traditional values of the nation, contributing to concretizing activities to implement Resolution 33 dated June 9, 2014 of the Party Central Committee on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable development of the country. In the coming time, we will continue to organize festivals to create a healthy playground, promote cultural and artistic movements among cadres, union members, members and youth. Bringing folk songs and vọng cổ to the young generation, thereby calling for the cooperation of young people to contribute to preserving and promoting the fine traditional values of the nation and homeland.
