Cao Son is a large coal mine in Cam Pha area, and is also the main source of coal for downstream units to supply thermal power plants. Therefore, from the beginning of 2025, the Company has focused on production, striving to exploit the maximum amount of coal at the bottom of the mine before the rainy season. These days, all production locations of Cao Son are very busy. Loading and transporting equipment are mobilized and transferred to shifts right at the mine to save time on orders and increase useful working hours.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Bao, Head of Production Control Department, in March alone, Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company exploited over 420,000 tons of coal, an increase of 24% compared to the quarterly plan. In the first 3 months of the year, the unit's raw coal output reached over 1.03 million tons, reaching 26% of the yearly plan. This year, the Company was assigned by TKV to exploit 3.9 million tons of raw coal.
The competitive atmosphere in labor is equally exciting in underground mines such as Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company - the largest coal mine in the Uong Bi - Dong Trieu coal region of TKV.
To increase productivity and output, Vang Danh Coal has launched a competition in all departments and workshops; focusing on caring for and improving working conditions, accommodation, and travel for workers. The unit continues to promote mechanization of mining, tunneling, and transportation with the policy of maximum implementation in qualified stages. In the first quarter, Vang Danh Coal produced about 900,000 tons of coal, creating a stable momentum for the months of the second quarter of 2025.
Implementing the direction of TKV, taking advantage of favorable conditions, the units of the Group's coal screening, processing and consumption blocks such as Cam Pha Logistics Company, Cua Ong Coal Selection, Cam Pha Coal Trading have increased the work of hauling coal from mines, ensuring enough resources for coal blending.
In general, the units have based on the coal transportation contracts and the official dispatches for receiving coal from the production units in Cam Pha area, developed a daily coal receiving plan for the volume of each type and each production unit. The units proactively arranged vehicles for transport routes on the basis of maximizing transport capacity; at the same time, regularly coordinated and worked with the production units, promptly adjusting the transport route when there were problems. In addition, the registration of daily coal delivery output of the production units has been improved, so the efficiency of vehicle mobilization and transport output is high.
Thanks to ensuring the source of coal for mining, the processing and blending of imported coal with domestic coal by downstream units also ensured the completion of the March and first quarter plans.
For Cam Pha Coal Trading Company, in the first quarter of 2025, the unit purchased mined coal, imported coal and non-coal products higher than planned, reaching 852 thousand tons, equal to 30.8% of the annual plan and up nearly 8% over the same period in 2024. Of which, raw coal and clean coal purchased from Deo Nai - Coc Sau, Cao Son, Ha Long mines were 362,000 tons; imported coal was 400,000 tons, the rest were non-coal products.
Thanks to ensuring the input coal source, the unit has organized the maximum capacity operation of screening systems, blending domestic coal with imported coal into types of coal dust 5a.14, 5b.14, 6a.10, 6a.14 to deliver to domestic thermal power plants, including: Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant, Vung Ang, Vinh Tan 2, Pha Lai, Duyen Hai 1.
Mr. Vu Huu Van, Deputy Director of the Company, said: At the end of the first quarter, the coal output of Cam Pha Coal Trading Joint Stock Company for electricity households reached 635,000 tons, equal to 27.6% of the yearly plan, up 10% over the same period. This is also the highest coal output for electricity of the Company ever.
As the largest coal supplier in the country, TKV clearly identifies the most important political task as ensuring enough coal for the electricity industry's production, serving the country's economic development. Therefore, the Group has proactively planned coal reserves since the end of 2024 and directed production units to ensure sufficient coal supply in the first months of 2025 with favorable weather conditions.
At the end of the first quarter, TKV produced over 10.5 million tons of raw coal, equal to 27.6% of the 2025 plan. Coal output for electricity in the first quarter increased compared to the same period last year, showing that TKV has fulfilled the tasks assigned by the Government and maintained growth momentum. With a stable momentum from the first quarter, TKV and its units are entering the second quarter with high determination, maintaining production and committing to providing enough coal for the production of the electricity industry and other economic sectors.
Accordingly, this April, TKV is expected to fulfill basic economic and technical targets, including: Coal production of 3.450 million tons; Excavation of 14.430 million m3 of earth and rock; Tunnel excavation of 23,850 m - of which, the construction tunnel is 740m; Coal consumption of 4.919 million tons, of which, coal for electricity production is 4.228 million tons.
