In just one week, Phu Cu district, the capital of early-ripening hybrid lychees of the province, will enter harvest. The total lychee output of the district is estimated to reach 14,500 - 15,000 tons of fruit, an increase compared to last year.
Phu Cu district is the largest lychee growing area in the province with over 1,200 hectares, accounting for over 95% of the province's lychee growing area. Of which, early-ripening hybrid lychee is 850 hectares; Hung Yen egg lychee has 400 hectares, produced according to VietGAP process.
Over 105 hectares have been granted OTAS certification, qualified for export to markets (Japan, Australia, USA). Phu Cu early-ripening hybrid lychee has been recognized by the Intellectual Property Office for its certification mark; and ranked as a 4-star OCOP product by the Provincial People's Committee. The soil and climate are especially suitable, helping Phu Cu early-ripening hybrid lychee possess outstanding advantages: not sour, not astringent, small seeds, sweet. Harvest time is 2 to 3 weeks earlier than the main crop lychee and is easy to consume, favored by customers.
This year, early-ripening hybrid lychees are expected to be harvested from June 7-10. Currently, the final stages to supply the market with the first bunches of red, sweet lychees are being urgently completed by gardeners in the district.
