Identifying the work of preventing and fighting epidemics during the rainy season as an important task in protecting and taking care of people's health, Yen Lac District Medical Center has developed and deployed many synchronous solutions, actively prepared adequate means, human resources, medicines, on-site logistics, on-site emergency care, ready to respond and suppress epidemics, not allowing major epidemics to occur in the area.
In early June, we went to Nguyet Duc Commune Health Station - the southern area of Yen Lac district, where during the rainy season, the area outside the dike is often flooded, making it easy for epidemics to arise such as dengue fever, chickenpox, intestinal, digestive, sores, itching, hand, foot and mouth disease.
Doctor, Head of the Commune Health Station Tran Duy Dung said: Implementing the program of natural disaster prevention, flood and storm prevention and search and rescue, epidemics in the rainy and stormy season of 2025, the Commune Health Station has established a treatment team at the station consisting of 3 people; a mobile emergency team of 3 people ready to go to villages to provide emergency care when there is an incident.
In addition, the station assigns village health workers to monitor disease outbreaks in villages. The station sends officers and employees to attend all training courses on disease prevention and food safety organized by the Department of Health and the District Health Center.
Actively propagate on the commune loudspeakers measures to prevent epidemics, organize spraying of disinfectants in households in dangerous areas, schools, cultural houses; monitor disease vectors in households at risk of epidemics, with old epidemics. Instruct people on how to use water filtration equipment and chemicals, disinfect water. Prepare emergency vehicles and equip each village with 1-2 life jackets, 2 sets of first aid splints, 2 sets of first aid kits, common emergency medicines...
Doctor Nguyen Hoang Phuong, Director of Yen Lac District Medical Center, said: Yen Lac has 7 communes in the alluvial land along the Red River. Every year, during the rainy season, floods often occur and disease outbreaks are common, especially dengue fever in some localities in the district with scrap collection and traditional craft villages such as the communes of Dong Van, Te Lo, Tam Hong, Trung Nguyen, Yen Dong, and Yen Lac town.
Since April, the District Health Center has proactively developed a plan to advise the District People's Committee to issue documents directing disease prevention to communes and towns; and to strengthen the Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and disease prevention of the District Health Center, with the Director of the Center as the Head of the Steering Committee.
Implement the “4 on-site” motto well, ensuring that there are commanding officers to coordinate search, rescue and transport victims right at the scene of natural disasters and catastrophes; medical staff are ready to provide first aid and emergency aid to victims and guide and direct environmental sanitation and disease prevention.
Stock up on-site with medicines and equipment for flood and storm prevention and disease control at commune and town health stations; for communes at risk of flooding, develop a plan for moving, ensuring the safety of medical facilities, preventing damage or loss of medicines, chemicals, medical equipment and machinery, and arranging emergency station staff to stay close to temporarily evacuated residential areas to ensure adequate staff, medicines and emergency equipment. Actively mobilize people to implement disease prevention and control to ensure safety and effectiveness.
From June to August, the center is expected to organize 4 training courses for 70 village health workers on environmental treatment before, during and after floods and storms. Instructions on the information reporting and declaration regime for infectious diseases and epidemics.
Organized for 34 officers who are station chiefs, deputy station chiefs and 30 employees who are carrying out disease prevention work on some basic first aid techniques and treatment of common diseases in natural disasters, storms and floods. Organize training for medical staff on disease surveillance and prevention skills as well as protective equipment; reserve antibiotics for some common diseases. Strengthen monthly epidemiological surveillance (key surveillance, surveillance of patients and healthy carriers, vector surveillance, serological and virological surveillance, risk factors).
Up to now, the District Medical Center has prepared the isolation and treatment area to receive patients; prepared 4 Fontan multi-purpose chemical sprayers, 1 large sprayer; 50 liters of Formalin chemicals; 200 kg of Cloaramin B, 50 liters of Permethrin chemicals; 50 bases of anti-epidemic drugs.
Establish 2 district-level mobile epidemic prevention teams, 1 mobile epidemic prevention team and 1 food safety and hygiene inspection and supervision team; 1 team/unit at commune and town levels... When an epidemic occurs, be ready to mobilize human resources to promptly contain the epidemic, especially during floods...
