Ha Giang: Rocks and soil collapsed on a stilt house in Hoang Su Phi district, crushing the homeowner couple to death and slightly injuring three others on the morning of July 5.
At around 2am, it was raining heavily, the hill behind the stilt house in Ngam Dang Vai commune, Hoang Su Phi district collapsed, knocking down the stilt house of Mr. Ly Van Thang, 61 years old, and Mrs. Vang Thi Thuong, 57 years old.
At that time, there were 7 people in the house, 2 people managed to escape, 5 people were trapped. The authorities and vehicles dug and brought all the victims out, however, Mr. Thang and Mrs. Thuong had died.
Over the past few days, the northern mountainous region has had heavy rain, mainly in the late afternoon and at night. The meteorological agency said that from 7pm on July 4 to this morning, Tung Vai and Thuong Son (Ha Giang) had more than 100mm of rain. The rainfall from July 1 to 4 in Thuong Son was nearly 310mm, Nam Ty was nearly 300mm, and Boc Nhieu ( Thai Nguyen ) was more than 210mm.
Heavy rain caused more than 2,000 cubic meters of rock and soil on inter-commune roads in Dai Tu, Dinh Hoa, and Phu Luong districts of Thai Nguyen province to collapse, damaging 19 hectares of rice.
