After the meeting on September 11, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation agreed not to allow athlete Dang Thi Hong to participate in the second phase of the 2025 National Championship. In addition, the 19-year-old athlete will also not be allowed to compete in tournaments in the official system of VFV from this point on.
The reason for this ban is because athletes who do not meet the conditions determined by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will lose the right to participate in tournaments in the official domestic competition system until a further decision is made.
At the recent U21 World Cup, in addition to Dang Thi Hong being eliminated from the list, the Vietnam U21 volleyball team was also penalized with 4 losses in the group stage, causing coach Nguyen Trong Linh and his team to lose their ticket to the round of 16.

After the ban on Dang Thi Hong, another case of Vietnamese women's volleyball player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen is also becoming a controversial topic.
Previously, the 2000-born setter suddenly withdrew from the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and will not participate in the 2025 World Championship. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the Ninh Binh Club hitter has refused to compete in international tournaments.
VFV, as the highest governing body of volleyball in Vietnam, although not directly talking about Bich Tuyen's case, affirmed that the issue of gender testing will be tightened from the beginning of 2026.
For now, some athletes who are suspected of having gender identity will continue to compete domestically because regulations for the 2025 season have been issued and applied. However, from 2026, VFV will conduct thorough checks on athletes who are suspected of having gender identity.

"This is a sensitive issue. However, the Federation still allows athletes to participate in the second phase of the 2025 national championship because the 2025 national championship regulations were issued at the beginning of the year, and do not have a requirement for inspection. From 2026, if there are any suspicious cases, we will check carefully," said a VFV representative.
Also according to VFV, the determination of gender disorder for athletes to participate in tournaments in the official competition system of Vietnam will be carried out according to specific instructions of FIVB, functional units and conditions to ensure the accuracy of this determination.
In fact, there is no need to wait until 2026, but right at the upcoming SEA Games, the issue of gender testing will be of special concern to VFV and the Department of Sports and Physical Training, in order to avoid unfortunate incidents like the case of Dang Thi Hong at the recent U21 World Cup.
