- In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse, immigration and customs activities through border gates in the province were bustling. To ensure disease safety, international health quarantine forces intensified control measures.

At Huu Nghi International Border Gate, health quarantine officers are currently intensifying monitoring of the health status of drivers and people crossing the border. Inspection and monitoring of hygiene for goods and transport vehicles are also being strengthened, especially for items that pose a risk to public health.
Mr. Phan Tran Kien, Head of the Health Management Department and Deputy Head of the Health Quarantine Team at Huu Nghi International Border Gate, informed: The period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) is a peak time because the volume of people and goods crossing the border increases sharply, raising the risk of new infectious diseases or the resurgence of seasonal epidemics. In light of this, the team has proactively developed a plan for increased duty shifts, arranged staff to work in shifts, prepared sufficient medical equipment and supplies, and closely coordinated with border guards, customs, and other relevant agencies to promptly handle any arising situations.
Not only at Huu Nghi International Border Gate, but also at other border gates such as Chi Ma, Tan Thanh, Coc Nam, and Dong Dang International Railway Station, health quarantine officers have intensified health checks and monitoring while also stepping up direct communication and consultation with people, drivers, and cargo owners. The communication focuses on compliance with health declaration regulations, personal disease prevention and control measures, and the responsibility to cooperate with functional forces during border crossing procedures.
To ensure the continuous flow of goods, quarantine officers at border gates have had to maximize their working hours. Mr. Hoang Song Thao, an officer of the Tan Thanh Border Gate Health Quarantine Team, shared: "During the peak season at the end of the year, our team members often work overtime, sometimes until 10 pm to prevent congestion and delays. Although it's more difficult than usual, everyone understands their responsibility and strives to complete their tasks well to ensure both effective disease prevention and control, and the best possible service for the people and businesses."
From the perspective of those processing the procedures, Mr. Nong Tuan Anh, a resident of Dong Kinh ward and an owner of an agricultural export business through Tan Thanh border gate, said: "Although there were more vehicles than usual, the quarantine officers provided clear guidance, and the procedures were quick and efficient. We complied well with the regulations, so customs clearance was quite smooth. When there were any problems, the quarantine officers proactively guided and supported us promptly, so the customs clearance process went smoothly without causing any inconvenience or unnecessary costs."
Alongside health control measures, sanitation and disease prevention efforts at border crossings are also regularly maintained. Quarantine forces have organized insecticide spraying at all five active border crossings; monitored disease vectors; and inspected the quality of drinking water in border areas, communal kitchens, and transportation vehicles.
Thanks to the proactive, decisive, and highly responsible efforts of the international health quarantine forces, disease control at border gates in the province during the year-end period is being implemented comprehensively and effectively. From the beginning of January 2026 to the present, the province has seen over 141,600 incoming passengers and 137,700 outgoing passengers, with 100% of passengers undergoing health checks and monitoring as per regulations. Additionally, over 48,400 vehicles transporting goods have undergone health quarantine. Through monitoring, authorities have not recorded any cases of confirmed or suspected cases of Group A infectious diseases entering through border gates. This is a crucial "shield" contributing to protecting public health and maintaining health safety amidst increasingly active cross-border trade and travel, especially during the Lunar New Year season.
