Early childhood education is a unique profession, where each teacher not only teaches but also assumes the role of a mother, a friend, and a protector of children's safety. Simply focusing on the curriculum makes it difficult for students to understand the real-world pressure of caring for dozens of children simultaneously. Therefore, practical training and internships are considered crucial links in determining the quality of graduates.
Hoang Ngoc Huyen, a student from class K21MMB, Faculty of Education, Lang Son College, shared: "The practical training phase is very important. It helps me connect the theoretical knowledge I learned at school with the practical aspects of educating children, and at the same time, consolidate and expand my professional knowledge about the psychological and physiological characteristics of preschool children. During my internship at Lien Co Preschool, I learned many essential professional skills such as: communication skills with children; pedagogical behavior; observing and evaluating children; coordinating with the supervising teacher in care and educational activities..."
During this process, the students directly experienced and practiced many aspects such as: participating in daily childcare from picking up and dropping off children to hygiene, feeding, and sleeping; assisting teachers in organizing learning and play activities, preparing materials and toys, etc. From this, students not only honed their skills but also developed a love for the profession, affection for children, a sense of responsibility as teachers, and a clearer direction for their future careers.
For many years, Lang Son College has maintained close ties with preschools in training. During the student placement period, the schools consistently monitor and understand the situation, providing timely support and resolving difficulties so that students can focus on their studies, training, and successfully complete their internships.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, Lang Son College will have 196 students studying early childhood education. Students are trained for three years, with practical training accounting for over 52% of the total class time, providing them with the best foundation before applying for jobs at preschools. As a result, the college's students consistently receive high praise from preschools in the area. Over the past three years, the employment rate for graduates in their field has exceeded 90%.
Mr. Phung Quy Son, Vice Principal in charge of Lang Son College, said: The school has developed the internship program as a mandatory course, with a scientific and flexible time schedule to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to practice. In addition, the school closely cooperates with the receiving unit to assign teachers to guide, organize classroom observations, and provide direct feedback to each student teacher.
Prioritizing vocational training and increasing practical time is the right approach, creating high-quality training for early childhood education students. Valuable practical experiences not only help students cultivate a love for the profession and children but also strengthen their skills, build confidence in their professional abilities, and prepare them to meet the demands of fundamental and comprehensive early childhood education reform in the province in the current period.
