After defeating Jannik Sinner 7-6, 6-1 in the final of the Italian Open 2025 on the evening of May 18, Alcaraz rose to second place in the ATP rankings, up one place from last week.
The Spanish star confidently entered Roland Garros starting in France on May 25 and he could only face Sinner in the final.

Despite losing to Alcaraz in the final in Rome (Italy), Jannik Sinner still reached an important milestone when entering the 50th consecutive week holding the number one position on the ATP rankings and securing the number one seed position at Roland Garros.
The Italian star became one of the few players in ATP history to achieve this feat on his first time reaching the top of the rankings, joining legends like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Jimmy Connors.
Jannik Sinner first became world number one on June 10, 2024, and has never left this position. The Italian maintains a gap of more than 1,500 points over second-placed Carlos Alcaraz and more than 3,000 points over third-placed Alexander Zverev.
With his run to the semi-finals of the 2025 Italian Open, Lorenzo Musetti has moved up to No. 8, helping him avoid the top 8 ahead of the Roland Garros quarter-finals. The world's top players remain unchanged, including Taylor Fritz (4), Jack Draper (5), Novak Djokovic (6) and Casper Ruud (7).

Novak Djokovic will compete in the 2025 ATP 250 Geneva Open in Switzerland with the goal of winning his 100th ATP title before heading to Roland Garros. Seeded No. 2, Djokovic will begin his campaign in the second round on May 21, against the winner of the match between Zizou Bergs and Marton Fucsovics.
If he passes the second round, Djokovic will likely meet eighth seed Matteo Arnaldi in the quarterfinals, the opponent who eliminated him at the 2025 Madrid Open with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Nole's potential opponents if he goes far in the tournament in Switzerland are Tomas Machac or Alexei Popyrin (semi-finals) and Taylor Fritz, Karen Khachanov or Hubert Hurkacz (final).
Alexander Zverev participated in the ATP 500 Hamburg Open 2025 in Germany, he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States in the first round with a score of 6-1, 7-6. In the second round, the German player will face French opponent Alexandre Muller, ranked 37th in the world.
