COVID-19 cases surpass 1,000, highest in nearly 6 months

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,532,103 cases, ranking 13th out of 230 countries and territories, while with the rate of cases per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 121st out of 230 countries and territories (on average, there are 116,541 cases per 1 million people).

Data reported daily by the Department of Health of provinces and cities on the COVID-19 Management System of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health shows that on the day, 2 patients were announced to be cured, bringing the total number of cured cases to 10,615,395.

There are 14 patients on oxygen, of which 12 cases are on oxygen via mask; 2 cases are on high flow HFNC oxygen.

No deaths have been recorded in the past 7 days. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,186, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of cases.

Total deaths ranked 26th out of 230 territories, deaths per 1 million people ranked 141st out of 230 countries and territories in the world . Compared to Asia, total deaths ranked 7th out of 49 (ranked 3rd in ASEAN), deaths per 1 million people ranked 29th out of 49 countries and territories in Asia (ranked 5th in ASEAN).

On April 16, 159 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered. Thus, the total number of doses administered was 266,073,566. Of these, 223,487,639 doses were administered to people aged 18 and over: 70,907,533 doses for the first dose; 68,450,021 doses for the second dose; 14,370,087 doses for the supplementary dose; 52,031,471 doses for the first booster dose; and 17,728,527 doses for the second booster dose.

Vaccinations for children aged 12-17 years old are 23,964,983 doses: 1st dose is 9,130,472 doses; 2nd dose is 9,021,223 doses; 1st booster dose is 5,813,288 doses.

Vaccination for children from 5-11 years old is 18,620,944 doses: 1st dose is 10,202,012 doses; 2nd dose is 8,418,932 doses.

According to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), the COVID-19 epidemic in the world is unpredictable, the virus is constantly mutating to create new variants that increase the ability to infect. Particularly in Hanoi, last week, the number of COVID-19 cases recorded increased compared to the previous week and may increase in the coming time. Therefore, units need to continue to closely monitor the epidemic situation to handle it promptly, not allowing the epidemic to break out.

According to forecasts by scientists and the World Health Organization (WHO), the SARS-CoV-2 virus still exists. One of the current tasks is to focus on protecting high-risk groups (elderly people, people with underlying diseases, immunodeficiency, pregnant women). These groups should wear masks when going to crowded places or poorly ventilated environments; at the same time, they must be vaccinated on schedule, with enough doses as recommended by the Ministry of Health.

To reduce the spread of infection, the Ministry of Health recommends that people and the community proactively implement epidemic prevention and control measures according to the 2K Message (Masks, Disinfection) + vaccines + drugs + treatment + technology + public awareness and other measures... Wearing masks in medical facilities and on public transport is a requirement for epidemic prevention and control.

The Ministry of Health has been closely monitoring the situation, not being passive in the face of new developments of the epidemic; at the same time, coordinating with experts and domestic and international organizations to regularly update and assess the situation in order to proactively make appropriate adjustments; mobilizing resources of the entire political and social system in the fight against the epidemic, ensuring unity with countries around the world.
