Over the past two days, Indonesian newspapers and social networks have been abuzz with information about goalkeeper Rizki Nur Fadilah (18 years old). Many sources claim that he was sold to Cambodia by illegal human traffickers.
In a TikTok video that appeared around November 18, the player also confirmed that he was in Cambodia but voluntarily.
Rizki Nur Fadilah shared: "I want to announce that the rumors about human trafficking are not true. I came to Cambodia by myself but now I want to go home. Here I am not beaten, I do not suffer violence as many people say."
However, Indonesian netizens immediately discovered an unusual sign. Rizki Nur Fadilah spoke unnaturally and lacked fluency. His eyes were also strange, as if he was reading a piece of paper.
And these suspicions are completely correct. On November 19, Jawapos newspaper quoted the police of Bandung city (West Java province, Indonesia) confirming that the 18-year-old goalkeeper was a victim of illegal human trafficking.
He received an invitation to try out at a local club, but was taken to Cambodia by scammers. Fortunately, Rizki Nur Fadilah was successfully rescued and is currently staying at the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to give a statement.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said he would do everything possible to help the player return home. "The West Java government will work with the police and the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to make the final decisions. We will ensure the safety of our citizens and are ready to assist him in returning home," he said.
It is known that the scammers used the name of PSMS Medan Club to lure Rizki Nur Fadilah. The club has spoken out to confirm that they did not make any invitations for a trial, and this is just a trick of human traffickers.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Professional Footballers Association (APPI) also issued a warning to young players against shady information. "This incident is not just an individual case, but a warning to all parties involved in protecting young players from fraudulent schemes impersonating football," APPI President Andritany Ardhiyasa emphasized.
