Next week, the Indonesian men's volleyball team will leave for China for training. After that, they will fly straight to Thailand to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
Before leaving, the whole team attended the farewell ceremony in their hometown. Here, President of the Indonesian Volleyball Federation (PPVSI) Imam Sudjarwo frankly shared that the goal of the men's volleyball team is nothing other than the gold medal.
Currently, Indonesia is the most successful team in Southeast Asia, having won a total of 12 SEA Games gold medals. This number far surpasses the next country, Thailand, with 8 titles.
In addition, the team from the archipelago is also dominating the tournament with a series of 3 consecutive championships (2019, 2021, 2023). This year's gold medal will be the 4th time, equaling their own achievement from 1987 - 1993.
Indonesian men's volleyball team has the right to believe in success, as they still have a strong force with typical names such as Rivan Nurmulki, Boy Arnez Arabi, Hendra Kurniawan, Jasen Nathanael Kilanta...
Leading this team is Chinese coach Jeff Jiang. So it is no surprise that Indonesian volleyball set high goals.
At the SEA V.League in July, this team won the second round, partly showing stability in the way they play.
Commenting on the opponents in the upcoming SEA Games, Mr. Imam said: "Looking at the results in the SEA V.League, it can be seen that all teams are very well prepared. Among them, the Philippines will be a new factor that should be wary, because they participated in the recent World Volleyball Championship as hosts.
This year we have created a combination of young athletes and experienced players to create a successor. If we coordinate well, this will be a very strong team."
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Indonesian men's volleyball team is in Group B with opponents Cambodia, Philippines, and Myanmar. Meanwhile, Group A has the presence of host Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Laos.
SEA Games 33 will take place from December 9 to 20 in Thailand.
