In the 51st minute, midfielder Ao Tanaka took a run-up, swung his leg to prepare to shoot from afar. From behind, Abu Francis leaned forward, raising his leg to get the ball. Following the momentum, Tanaka's leg kicked hard from behind, causing Abu Francis' right leg to break.

Many players who witnessed Abu Francis' injury held their heads in panic. Some other players urged the medical team to enter the field.

After receiving medical attention, Abu Francis left the field on a stretcher. Ao Tanaka, after being substituted in the 68th minute, went to the Ghana team's technical area to send his regards to Abu Francis.

Ghana coach Otto Addo also responded to Tanaka with encouragement and said it was an unfortunate situation in football.

Abu Francis (2001) is currently playing for Toulouse in the French Championship. Abu Francis is in good form and is considered a pillar of the Ghana team at the 2026 World Cup. However, this injury may cause Abu Francis to miss the opportunity to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
