Vietnamese chess wins gold medal at 2025 Asian Mind Sports Games

VHO - On November 15, the sole representative of Vietnamese chess - Le Tuan Minh excellently won the gold medal in the rapid chess event at the 2025 Asian Mind Sports Games, taking place in Singapore.

In the rapid chess event, Tuan Minh (Elo 2,499) is the third seed after two players Megaranto Susanto (Indonesia, Elo 2,534) and Tin Jingyao (Singapore, Elo 2,504).

Tuan Minh won the gold medal with an undefeated record.

Tuan Minh played 9 games against opponents from Indonesia, Singapore and China with a record of 7 wins and 2 draws, achieving 8 points.

Tuan Minh had a very good start when he won the first 5 games in a row, including a victory against number 1 seed Megaranto Susanto in game 5.

In game 6, Tuan Minh tied with second seed Tin Jingyao. He then won games 7 and 8 against Chinese players, before drawing game 9 with an Indonesian player to achieve an undefeated record.

Tuan Minh excellently won the gold medal with 8 points, above the number 1 seed Megaranto Susanto who won the silver medal with 7.5 points, and the number 2 seed Tin Jingyao who won the bronze medal with 7 points.

After winning the gold medal in rapid chess, Tuan Minh continued to compete in blitz chess and is also a candidate for the gold medal.

Tuan Minh is considered the number 3 chess player in Vietnam at present after Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son.

The 29-year-old player won the national championship in 2020, then won 2 gold medals (1 individual, 1 team) at the 31st SEA Games in 2022. Last year, he made a strong impression with an individual bronze medal at the Chess Olympiad.

In particular, Tuan Minh is very strong in rapid chess and blitz chess. These are also the two events that this player competes in at the congress in Singapore.
