Former assistant coach Kim Sang Sik lost his job at Thanh Hoa Club

Former assistant coach of coach Kim Sang Sik in the Vietnam national team, coach Choi Won Kwon, has said goodbye to Thanh Hoa Club after a series of unsuccessful matches in the V-League 2025-2026.

Thanh Hoa Club and Coach Choi Won Kwon have parted ways after poor performance in V-League 2025-2026. Another reason comes from the team's poor finances after Mr. Cao Tien Doan - Club President was arrested.

Coach Choi Kwon Won once said that he and his players have not received salaries for the past 3-4 months. This is a long enough period of time to wear down their motivation to compete, even though everyone still tries their best every time they go on the field.

Most recently, Thanh Hoa Club was held to a regrettable 1-1 draw in Pleiku in round 11 on November 9, when central defender Dinh Quang Kiet scored the equalizer for Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club in the 90+10 minute.

After 10 matches, Thanh Hoa FC is ranked 11/14 teams with 8 points, exactly 1 point more than the bottom teamSHB Da Nang but has played 1 match less. The Thanh team still has a make-up match in round 10 against Cong An Ha Noi at home on February 24, 2026.

Thanh Hoa Club's only win so far came in round 8, when they defeated host Song Lam Nghe An 1-0.

Coach Choi Won Kwon took charge of Thanh Hoa FC in July. He was an assistant to coach Kim Sang Sik of the Vietnam national team when they won the ASEAN Cup 2024. However, the decision to lead a Vietnamese club turned out to be a mistake for the former Korean national team player.

In addition to coach Choi Won Kwon, Thanh Hoa Club also said goodbye to central defender Que Ngoc Hai even though he was only brought in at the beginning of the season.

Currently, Thanh Hoa Club is on a break until November 23rd before resuming training. Most likely, assistant Mai Xuan Hop will be promoted to replace coach Choi Won Kwon in the role of head coach.

In addition to difficulties in performance, Thanh Hoa Club is also facing another big difficulty when FIFA has just banned the registration of new players for the second time in 2025. The temporary period is 3 consecutive transfer periods from November 2025.
