Variety of books

After the work Letter to You - a collection of letters from Major General Hoang Dan to his wife - was particularly successful over the past year (reprinted 10 times), recently, the battlefield memoir From Ben Hai River to Independence Palace written by him was also introduced. This is a work about the heroic years of the nation, especially the period 1974 - 1975. Besides depicting the heroic, indomitable spirit, the sacrifice of many individuals and families, the work also contains lessons on leadership, tactics... left by the previous generation for the younger generation in peacetime.

Another very attractive work is the memoir of Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, former Vice President, the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam at the Paris Peace Talks - entitled Family, Friends and Country. After more than 10 years of reprinting, the book still attracts readers, taking them from her childhood to her participation in revolutionary activities. In it, she highlights the sources of strength in her life, which are her family, her friends, and her whole life devoted to the country.

Preparing for the book series celebrating the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, over the past time, Tre Publishing House has continuously reintroduced outstanding books. These include memoirs and war notes such as Memories of Saigon during the war (Trieu Quoc Manh), Tanks in the war in Vietnam, Journey to the Independence Palace (Nguyen Khac Nguyet), Saigon Special Forces (Nguyen Duc Hung), From Buon Ma Thuot to Saigon (Huynh Nghi)... Works depicting portraits of important people have also been reprinted, such as Vo Van Kiet's Jade (Nguyen Chien Thang), Vo Van Kiet - The Firelighter, Nguyen Van Linh - Journey with History, Tran Van Giau - A Hundred-Year Mark, Tran Bach Dang - Life and Memories...

The topic of old Saigon is also of interest with a series of works such as Saigon through memories by writer Le Van Nghia, Questions and answers about the geography of Saigon - Gia Dinh by researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau as well as many works by scholar Vuong Hong Sen: Saigon in the past, Saigon miscellaneous ... The famous intelligence novel series The Flip Card by Nguyen Truong Thien Ly was also reprinted on this occasion after many years of absence.

In addition to domestic authors, many works from foreign researchers were also introduced on this occasion, adding many special perspectives on the past. One can mention Ho Chi Minh City - Zero Hour: Reports on the end of the 30-year war, including reports by many Western journalists present during the historic days. Kim Dong Publishing House has just launched Cuu Long Giang Khoi Lua - Sketches and Poems compiled by Sherry Buchanan, including stories, sketches, poems, and letters by wartime artists. Along with Vietnam is another unique work, when poet Angelina Gatell selected works written by international poets to protest the war...

Positive reception

After their release, the above works were well received. For example, From Ben Hai River to Independence Palace reached 1,000 orders after only 5 days of pre-ordering, and has continued to increase since then. This shows the special interest of readers, including many young people, in the history of our country. The recent book launch seminar recorded the participation of many young people who wanted to explore more about the difficult yet heroic days of our ancestors.

A distributor said that the memoir Family, Friends and Country also continuously "sold out" last week. According to this person, the buyers are mostly young readers, who came to the book because they had previously seen clips of Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh's dialogue in Paris on social networks. These clips were reposted by many accounts, quickly becoming popular because of Ms. Binh's dignified and strong demeanor. From there, many young people were interested, and when they knew the memoir was back, they wanted to buy it to learn more.

For the younger generation, in addition to the value of the work, the popularity and level of discussion on social networks are also one of the reasons why they seek out historical books. This cannot be without mentioning the influence of films such as The Tunnels - The Sun in the Dark recently as well as works that have been noticed again in the Cine 7 program - Vietnamese Film Memories such as Dung Dot, Canh Dong Hoang, Den Hen Lai Len, Bao Gio Cho Den Thang Muoc, Mui Co Chay, Latitude 17 Days and Nights... These things, combined with the upcoming extremely special anniversary, have created a wave of interest in historical books.

Many readers also said that they chose to read these works to better understand the difficult journey that the entire nation has gone through. Projecting to the present, they also help each person appreciate every moment of living in peace, thereby drawing many lessons for themselves through the way the previous generation lived and fought.
