On December 16th, the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital of Quang Ngai province successfully received and treated a case of a child who had swallowed a dangerous foreign object. The patient, TVKN (6 years old, from Son Tinh commune, Quang Ngai), was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain due to swallowing a metal hair clip.

According to the child's family, after lunch at school, while sleeping, the little girl was playing with a hair clip in her mouth and accidentally swallowed it. She immediately informed her teacher and was promptly taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
After examination and X-ray imaging, doctors determined that the foreign object was located in the abdominal cavity, at the level of the vertebrae. Due to the risk of the foreign object causing damage to the digestive tract, the child was urgently scheduled for endoscopic removal of the foreign object.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi My Le, Deputy Head of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Department at Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, the endoscopy procedure was difficult due to the presence of a significant amount of food in the child's stomach. However, after much effort, the team successfully removed the approximately 7 cm long metal hairpin, ensuring the child's safety.
The baby's health is currently stable and is being monitored following the endoscopic procedure.

Based on the above case, doctors advise parents and teachers to pay special attention and prevent children from coming into contact with or playing with sharp objects such as needles, hair clips, and pins. These foreign objects can enter the digestive tract, causing perforation, bleeding, severe infection, and even life-threatening conditions.
"When you discover that a child has swallowed a foreign object, absolutely do not try to handle it at home. You need to quickly take the child to a medical facility for timely intervention," emphasized Dr. Nguyen Thi My Le.
