On November 25, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital announced that it had successfully treated a case of a young child who swallowed four sharp-pointed magnetic nails, a situation that potentially poses a risk of intestinal perforation, intestinal obstruction, or intestinal necrosis if not treated promptly.

Boy swallowed 4 dangerous sharp magnetic nails.
Baby DHP (2 years old, residing in Nghe An) was brought to the hospital by his family in a state of suspected ingestion of a foreign object while playing with a toy. Abdominal X-ray results showed four small, round, sharp-tipped metal objects in the abdomen, suspected to be magnetic nails. These magnets had stuck together in the digestive tract, creating a particularly serious risk.

Immediately after determining the cause, the team of doctors from the Functional Exploration Department in coordination with the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department quickly performed an emergency endoscopy to remove the foreign object. The intervention was carried out very carefully to avoid causing damage to the esophagus and stomach. After more than an hour, all four magnetic nails were safely removed. After the procedure, the patient's health was stable, he was alert, able to eat and drink and was discharged after a short period of monitoring.
According to doctors at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, magnets, especially small or sharp-pointed ones found in toys, are among the most dangerous foreign objects when swallowed by children. Magnets can stick together, causing intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation, abdominal bleeding, and even life-threatening situations.
Doctors recommend that parents absolutely do not let children play with toys containing small magnets, sharp points or easily swallowed objects. At the same time, it is necessary to keep small metal objects such as nails, batteries, buttons, screws, magnets out of children's reach. If you suspect that a child has swallowed a foreign object, take the child to a medical facility immediately, do not induce vomiting or wait for the foreign object to come out on its own.
