Information from Bai Chay Hospital ( Quang Ninh ) said that the unit had just received and successfully performed laparoscopic surgery on a female patient with a large ovarian tumor, equivalent to a 5-month-old fetus.
The patient is Ms. Dinh TH (37 years old, Bai Chay ward, Quang Ninh province), admitted to the hospital with a rapidly growing abdomen and pain in the lower abdomen. Through examination, the doctors discovered that the abdomen was soft but there was a mass in the lower abdomen at the level of the navel, with clear boundaries, limited mobility and pain when palpated.

The patient's ovarian tumor was 'giant' in size, equivalent to a 5-month pregnancy.

The patient was successfully operated on by the doctor with endoscopic surgery.
The results of the abdominal ultrasound and CT scan showed a large cystic mass in the pelvic area measuring 12.8x15cm. Immediately, the doctors consulted with obstetricians and diagnosed a large mass in the pelvic area, suspected of being a left ovarian cyst.
After consultation, the surgical team led by Dr. Nguyen Van Manh - Deputy Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department performed laparoscopic surgery to completely remove the tumor, while preserving the patient's ovaries and reproductive function.
Doctor Manh said: Large ovarian tumors in the pelvic area, if not surgically removed, will cause many dangerous complications. Large tumors make the patient's abdomen heavy, compressing abdominal organs such as the bladder, rectum, large intestine, stomach... causing frequent urination, frequent urination during the day and persistent constipation, poor appetite, tumors pressing on the heart, lungs causing chest tightness, difficulty breathing... affecting the patient's health and quality of life. If a large tumor ruptures due to impact or trauma, it can cause abdominal bleeding leading to peritonitis, abdominal infection, and endangering life.
