Upon receiving news of severe flooding in Hoa Thinh commune – where his daughter-in-law's family lives – on November 19th, Mr. Tran Ngoc My, along with Mr. Nguyen Huu Khan, Mr. Nguyen Huu Chu, and Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, used a small motorboat with three oars to travel into the flood-stricken area to rescue their relatives.

After bringing their daughter-in-law, newborn grandchild, and relatives to safety, as darkness fell and they heard urgent cries for help from all over Hoa Thinh, the group of fishermen decided to stay in the flooded area to continue rescuing people. In the strong currents and darkness, despite the lurking dangers, the fishermen paddled their small boats to each village, rescuing residents from the deeply flooded areas and bringing them to safety.
On November 20th, while returning through Hoa My commune, despite being exhausted from hunger and shivering from the cold, the group continued to participate in rescue efforts until November 21st. Over three days and nights, the four fishermen rescued nearly 400 people in Hoa My and Hoa Thinh communes.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huu Khan said: "The floodwaters rose very quickly, and people were calling for help everywhere. At that time, we didn't think about anything else; we just tried to save as many people as we could."
After the floodwaters receded, on November 24th, the entire team returned to Hoa My, Hoa Thinh, bringing with them nearly 40 million VND that they had raised from residents of Phu Tho 1 neighborhood and friends in Ho Chi Minh City to support some families who had been rescued during the flood.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Nguyen Huu Thuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Hoa My commune, on behalf of the local leadership, expressed his appreciation, gratitude, and high regard for the courageous spirit and humane deeds of the fishermen. He also affirmed that the locality will promptly commend and promote such exemplary individuals and good deeds, thereby contributing to building a united and compassionate community, working together in disaster prevention, control, and recovery efforts.
