" The Journalists' Book Week shows the versatility of journalists, and is an opportunity for journalists to express themselves. When a book is printed, whether it is a collection of articles or a reportage - memoir, through the form of expression that is... a book, the appeal is different. Reading the work, readers can recognize the author's writing tendency, then the journalist's thoughts, worries, and concerns, along with life messages that are conveyed systematically and in a longer way. From there, the humanistic values and resonance brought about by the book will be effective, making the work more significant than if each article were placed separately," affirmed journalist Le Hoang - Vice President of the Vietnam Publishing Association.
Journalist Hoang Hai Van talks with readers about the book The Mysterious Intelligence General and the Super Mission
At 3:00 p.m. on June 17, journalist Hoang Hai Van - former General Secretary of Thanh Nien Newspaper, interacted with readers about the book The Mysterious Intelligence General and the Super Mission revolving around untold stories about the mysterious intelligence officer Dang Tran Duc (Mr. Ba Quoc).
He is Major General Hero of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces Dang Tran Duc, his comrades call him Ba Quoc. He is also the outstanding teacher who guided Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh - former Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam to grow up from the first days of entering the intelligence field.
During more than 20 years of operating "inside" the enemy, Mr. Ba Quoc was the only spy who infiltrated the highest intelligence agency of the Saigon government, as an intelligence officer working at the Presidential Palace Secret Service and the Central Intelligence Special Commission.
He is also the most mysterious intelligence general, not only to the public but also to the armed forces and the country's leaders. Very few people know about his glorious achievements, except for those responsible for the intelligence sector and a few high-ranking leaders directly in charge of national defense and security.
With the desire to honor the silent hero and to help more people understand the glorious feats as well as the silent sacrifices of the Vietnamese intelligence force, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh asked two journalists Hoang Hai Van and Tan Tu to collect and compile articles, along with some new information and their reflections after 20 years of looking back. The book "The mysterious intelligence general and the super missions" gathers a series of 36 long stories published in Thanh Nien newspaper in 2004, and also adds a part about Mr. Ba Quoc's activities after 1975 - with feats that the authors had to admit were "more glorious" than they could have imagined.
Through 36 stories imbued with humanity, the book contains many valuable lessons not only about intelligence work but also about how to treat others, the perspectives and attitudes that today's young generation needs to learn.
In addition, the eight articles about the post-1975 activities of the intelligence general Ba Quoc are also invaluable legacies in the treasure trove of Vietnamese military and political science that he and his predecessors passed on to the next generation. Not only that, the book also contains many lessons about the art of leadership, especially about the importance of the people's hearts.
With its dramatic journalistic style and skillful storytelling, The Mysterious Intelligence General and the Super Agents captivates readers from the very first pages, through each fascinating intelligence story that takes place during the fierce war years.
