Check out the electric SUV MG S5 EV from 670 million VND, coming to Vietnam soon

The new MG S5 EV 2025 electric car has been revealed in the Malaysian market before its official launch. This is a C-class electric SUV that replaces the previously unimpressive ZS EV. At the same time, the MG S5 EV is also positioned as a direct competitor to the Proton eMas 7 and BYD Atto 3 in this market.

As mentioned above, the electric MG S5 EV is in the C-segment SUV segment. The car has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,476 x 1,849 x 1,621 mm, a wheelbase of 2,730 mm and a minimum turning radius of only 4.99 meters. Compared to its predecessor MG ZS EV, this model is 153 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 4 mm lower while the wheelbase is 149 mm longer.

In addition, this model is also slightly larger than the BYD Atto 3. On the outside, the MG S5 EV has a modern front-end design, featuring split-layer LED headlights, LED daytime running lights inspired by racing flags, and a closed grille with active opening/closing air intakes.

In addition, there are standard 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights connecting both sides, creating a T-shape. MG S5 EV is only equipped with 2 rows of seats with 5 seats. Behind the second row of seats is a luggage compartment with a volume of 453 liters. If the rear seats are folded, this number will increase to a maximum of 1,441 liters.

However, this model does not have a front storage compartment like many other electric cars. The amenities of this electric SUV are quite diverse. The car has a 3-spoke steering wheel inspired by the equipment of its senior MG4 EV, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard and a 12.8-inch central entertainment screen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.

In addition, there are perforated leather and fabric seats, gear knobs, mechanical air conditioning and volume control panels, Qi wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, electric trunk door, etc. Not only convenient, MG S5 EV also has many safety features to support the driver such as a 360-degree camera.

Automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control with stop/go, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic alert with automatic braking, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beams.

The "heart" of the MG S5 EV is an electric motor located on the rear axle, generating a maximum capacity of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Thanks to that, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 8 seconds. In the low version, this electric car model uses a 49 kWh LFP battery, providing an operating range according to the WLTP standard of 340 km.

The car supports both 6.6 kW AC slow charging and 120 kW DC fast charging. The battery charging time from 10% to 80% using fast charging is 24 minutes. Meanwhile, the Long Range version uses a 62.2 kWh battery, increasing the operating range to 430 km. This version supports 150 kW DC fast charging with a charging time from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.

Other notable features include a 6 kW V2L external device charging support system, a new 5-point multi-link rear suspension system and XDS torque distribution system via brakes. The MG S5 EV in the Malaysian market has color options of Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red and Elegant Latte.

The expected price of the MG S5 EV 2025 is RM 115,000 (about VND 670 million). However, it is likely that the official selling price will be lower with incentives at launch.

It is not yet clear whether the MG S5 EV will be sold in Vietnam after Malaysia. MG is currently distributing two electric car models in Vietnam, the MG4 EV and Cyberster. If it comes to Vietnam, the MG S5 EV will be a competitor of the VinFast VF7.
