On the morning of January 22 local time, in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Liechtenstein Prime Minister Daniel Risch.
Prime Minister Daniel Risch thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to discuss bilateral relations; affirmed the importance and interest in promoting relations with Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with Liechtenstein and wishes to promote cooperation in all fields, especially in the economic field . Economic cooperation between the two countries is still modest but has much room for development, and the two economies have many strengths that can complement and support each other.
To create a substantial shift in economic and trade cooperation, the Prime Minister suggested that both sides continue to perfect the legal basis for bilateral cooperation and seek new potential cooperation directions.
The Prime Minister said that Vietnam hopes to soon conclude negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the EFTA bloc (including Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) and the two sides will continue to negotiate and sign an investment protection agreement.
Agreeing with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein hopes to complete negotiations on the Vietnam - EFTA FTA this year, as well as move towards negotiating a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.
Prime Minister Daniel Risch also said that the two countries have many similarities to enhance cooperation, such as the industrialization process has strongly promoted GDP growth, industrial production accounts for about 40% of each country's GDP. Many Liechtenstein businesses are very interested in the Vietnamese market.
Agreeing that with the determination of both sides, differences in negotiations will be resolved, the two Prime Ministers extended invitations to visit each other to discuss in more detail measures to promote bilateral relations.
