On March 15, the Department of Pathology - Cell and the Department of Genetics, Hung Vuong Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City received the ISO 15189:2012 certificate. This is a certificate of high-standard medical diagnostic testing capacity recognized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

At the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Van Thong, Head of the Department of Genetics at Hung Vuong Hospital, said that prenatal diagnosis and screening tests play an important role in ensuring more accurate treatment for patients, especially for pregnant women, ensuring healthy babies. With the ISO 15189:2012 certificate of quality management of testing at the hospital, it can be used as a reference result for other genetic testing centers.

Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Hoang Thi Diem Tuyet, Director of Hung Vuong Hospital, added that worldwide , studies have shown that paraclinical results affect 60%-70% of doctors' treatment decisions, in diagnosing and treating diseases promptly and accurately. Currently, the hospital can perform most genetic diagnostic techniques in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, including classic tests such as double test; NIPT test (non-invasive fetal anomaly screening)...
In particular, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital's Department of Medical Genetics was the first obstetric unit to perform PCR testing to identify pregnant women infected with COVID-19. In addition, the unit also performs PCR tests to diagnose gynecological infections and sexually transmitted diseases. In particular, the hospital has recently implemented screening tests for metabolic disorders in newborns, contributing to improving population quality and child development.
In addition, one of the outstanding features of genetic testing is the early and accurate detection of genetic diseases, which will greatly limit the number of unnecessary amniocentesis cases. Because amniocentesis is an invasive test, there are still possible complications such as bleeding, infection or miscarriage.
Previously, in 2020, the Laboratory Department of Hung Vuong Hospital was officially recognized for ISO 15189:2012 standard for 10 biochemical tests announced by the AOSC Accreditation Assessment Organization.
