Soon stabilize water supply for people in Quyet Thang commune

Through the hotline of Hai Phong Newspaper and Radio and Television, we received information from Quyet Thang commune residents about the unstable quality of domestic water, weak flow, affecting people's lives.

According to the feedback from the people of Tien Cuong and Tu Cuong communes (formerly) now belonging to Quyet Thang commune, from the beginning of June 2025 until now, the domestic water supplied from Tien Cuong Water Plant has been cloudy, sometimes slightly salty and often cut off without notice. This prolonged situation has disrupted the daily lives of the people. In many families, the water from the tap is often cloudy, especially in the early morning or after water cuts.

Some people said that after boiling, the water still leaves a layer of white residue at the bottom of the kettle, and sometimes there is a film floating on the surface, causing discomfort and suspicion. Ms. Tran Thi H., a resident of Quyet Thang commune, shared that at the end of July 2025, the water was often cloudy and lacked water, her family had to buy bottled water for daily cooking, and only dared to use tap water for bathing and washing. Every month, the family still had to pay for domestic water from the factory at 8,500 VND/ ^m3 , so the cost of living increased significantly.

A reporter's survey of domestic water in some households in the commune on August 7 showed that the water source was cloudy, not clear, and had a slightly salty taste.

Mr. Nguyen Vinh Tho, Director of Hung Huy Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company, the operator of Tien Cuong Water Plant, said that with the approval of local authorities and functional agencies, the unit took over and provided clean water to more than 2,700 households in Quyet Thang commune from July 2024. At the time of taking over Tien Cuong Water Plant, the unit replaced the input water pipeline and connected the water supply pipeline of the entire system with a pipeline length of 4,179 m. The construction period is from the date of handover of the site to December 30, 2025. To date, the unit has completed about 80% of the work volume.

During the construction period, for areas where water supply had to be stopped to connect the pipeline, the unit reported to the local authorities and made an announcement on the commune's loudspeaker system. After connecting the pipeline, the specialized department flushed the pipeline, so in the first days of water supply, the water was cloudy and sometimes had sediment. Regarding the salty water, the factory admitted that this phenomenon occurred at some times due to the influence of the upstream water source (Luoc River) changing seasonally due to saltwater intrusion, or because sediment in the pipeline had not been flushed in time. In addition, the time of pipeline installation coincided with the construction of new rural roads on some routes in the commune, affecting the water connections, causing mud and soil to enter the water supply system to the people.

These incidents were promptly resolved by the factory in coordination with the new rural road construction unit, and notices were issued to inform the people. The factory representative also said that maintenance and inspection of the output water quality are carried out periodically every month, there is a water quality inspection report and the company reports to the local authorities.

People in Quyet Thang commune are not comfortable using turbid and salty water.

Regarding the feedback from the people related to the quality of domestic water, comrade Nguyen Huy Lieu, Economic Department, Quyet Thang commune informed that the situation of cloudy water and water supply cut-off for households in the two communes of Tien Cuong and Tu Cuong (old) recently was due to Hung Huy Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company replacing the water inlet pipe system and branch lines. The local government reminded the water supply unit to immediately remedy this situation, ensure regular water supply and water quality for the people, avoid causing frustration and affecting the local order situation.

In the context of climate change, the situation of saltwater intrusion is increasingly complicated, the People's Committee of the commune requires the water supply unit to invest in modern filtration systems and tanks to overcome the saltwater situation. Every month, the People's Committee of the commune requires the water supply unit to conduct periodic inspections and set up a team to conduct surprise inspections of water quality so that people can use it with peace of mind and stabilize their lives.

To ensure continuous, stable and quality water supply, Tien Cuong Water Plant needs to promptly overcome the consequences of replacing and connecting water pipes to meet the clean water needs of the people.
