The transfer has been rumoured for weeks, ever since Son Heung Min announced he would be leaving Tottenham this summer.
However, the amount of money that the Korean superstar brought to Tottenham still surprised many people. Now 33 years old, Son Heung Min only has 1 year left on his contract with Tottenham.
In such circumstances, the transfer fee would normally be very low. But Los Angeles still had to spend up to 20 million pounds ($26.5 million) to own Son Heung Min's signature.
American media said this is also the most expensive transfer deal in the history of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Although MLS has many superstars who are more famous than Son Heung Min, such as Messi, Suarez... most of these players only come to the US to "retire", as free transfers. The fact that an American team spent more than 20 million USD to buy a 33-year-old player is unprecedented.
There has been no official announcement about Son's salary at Los Angeles FC. US media speculate that the figure he will receive here will be around 9-10 million USD, much lower than Messi, but higher than the rest of the league.
On the other hand, the official contract term is until 2027, with an additional clause to extend the contract year by year until 2029.
In 2015, Tottenham spent £22 million to bring Son Heung Min from Leverkusen. It's hard to believe that after 10 years, they still recouped their investment by selling him to the US.
