Indonesia team cannot surpass Vietnam on FIFA rankings

According to an update from Football Ranking, the Indonesian team cannot surpass the Vietnamese team in the FIFA rankings to be announced on September 18.

In this September FIFA Days, the Vietnamese team did not compete internationally. Therefore, the "golden star warriors"' score remained the same but their ranking dropped 2 places, from 113th to 115th (due to the teams below them moving up in rank).

Meanwhile, the Indonesian team had two friendly matches, winning 6-0 against Chinese Taipei and drawing 0-0 with Lebanon. With these results, the Indonesian team accumulated 3.43 more points, moving up 1 place from 118th to 117th.

In terms of ranking, the Indonesian team is only 2 places behind Vietnam, the gap in points has narrowed to 11.94. At the FIFA Days in October, Indonesia will enter the matches in the fourth qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.

Here, Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia and Iraq. These are both stronger teams than Indonesia and coach Patrick Kluivert and his team will be awarded many points if they have good results.

In October, the Vietnamese team will have two matches with Nepal in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. Because Nepal is a weaker team than Vietnam, even if they win, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will not accumulate many points.

Currently, the gap of nearly 12 points with Vietnam is difficult for Indonesia to fill in October. But things can change from November, depending on the plans of the two teams.
