Ms. Thu runs a small business. Coming from a poor rural village, she understands the hardships faced by many poor women and children. Therefore, she has always been concerned about doing something useful to help them overcome difficulties and regain hope in life.
In 2018, witnessing the plight of people in her small neighborhood who were sick and lacked the money for treatment, single mothers raising young children, and children facing numerous difficulties and shortages in attending school, Ms. Thu felt deeply troubled. "I thought, if I can help someone live a little better, why not do it?" Ms. Thu shared.
With that thought in mind, she discussed with her husband and children the idea of allocating a portion of their savings from their business to help those less fortunate. In the early years, she gave a few gifts to poor households in the commune, and the people sincerely accepted them. The more she did, the more she realized that even small acts brought joy and happiness to many families and children, which motivated her to be more proactive and strive harder. She never refused to help anyone in need if she could.
While in 2018 she only helped a few households, her charitable activities have now expanded to many neighboring communes. In some years, she and her family have done charity work in six neighboring communes, providing 25-30 million VND in support to particularly needy cases in each commune. Each gift package includes cakes and cash worth 500,000 VND, along with words of encouragement and motivation.
One of the most touching acts of kindness was when, in 2023, Ms. Thu sponsored Nguyen Thanh Chuc from Lai Xa village (a third-year university student), providing her with 500,000 VND per month until graduation. While the amount may not be large, it's a huge source of encouragement for a student from a disadvantaged background. Every month, Ms. Thu kindly inquires about Chuc's situation and reminds her to strive and work hard in her studies. Chuc shared: "My family is struggling, and I'm working while studying. Since receiving Ms. Thu's help, I've been very happy; it's a great source of encouragement on my journey to adulthood."

On July 27th, Ms. Thu donated 40 gift packages (500,000 VND each) to the relatives and families of martyrs in the commune. For her, it was not only a token of gratitude but also a reminder of the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source." Also, on occasions like International Women's Day (March 8th) or Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20th), when many women are busy earning a living or struggling with life's worries, she gently brings them small gifts. Some years, she gives gifts to 15-20 women in difficult circumstances, offering them encouragement.
What impressed people most was her discreet and unpretentious approach to helping. She went out on her own, asking around and seeking out families who truly needed assistance. The villagers called her "The Kind-Hearted Woman of Xuan An Village." Mr. Tran Duy Thuoc, Chairman of the Thanh Ha Commune People's Committee, stated: "Ms. Thu is a shining example in the 'Good People, Good Deeds' movement, a key figure connecting the community and spreading compassion, making life around her a more beautiful place."
Throughout her philanthropic journey, she has always had the companionship of her husband and children, her loved ones who have provided financial and emotional support so that she can focus on doing good work. Speaking about her journey, she simply smiles gently and says, "I only hope that those in need will have more faith in life, and that children will have more opportunities to go to school. I will help as much as I can."
At 58, when many people think of leisure and enjoyment, Ms. Trinh Hoai Thu is still tirelessly seeking out those in difficult circumstances to help. Her compassionate heart is like a flame warming countless lives, spreading the belief that amidst life's worries, human kindness still prevails.
