Determined 8 volleyball teams in the quarterfinals of the world tournament

On the evening of September 23, the final match of the round of 16 of the Men's Volleyball World Championship took place, thereby determining the 8 teams that entered the quarterfinals.

The final match of the round of 16 of the Volleyball World Cup took place between Serbia and Iran. This was considered the most evenly matched match of this period when Serbia ranked 13th in the world, only 3 places higher than Iran.

What happened on the field reflected that balance of talent, the two teams created an extremely spectacular score chase.

Serbia won the first set 25-23, before Iran tied the score 1-1 with a 6-point win in the second set.

Serbia took the lead again by winning the third game 25-23, and Iran leveled the score again with a 25-22 win in the fourth game.

They had been leading for a long time but when it came to the decisive moment, Serbia were the team that had to chase. They had a terrible start in the last game when their opponents quickly took a 4-1 lead.

From then on, Iran maintained a comfortable lead, eventually winning the decisive game 15-9, making them the only Asian team to make it to the quarter-finals.

Previously, the Czech Republic was the 7th name to win a ticket to the quarterfinals when crushing Tunisia with a score of 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 in the match that took place on the afternoon of September 23.

This is also the final day of the round of 16 stage of the 2025 Volleyball World Championship. This stage takes place from September 20 to present.

There were no significant surprises in the round of 16, as the favourites all won.

Along with Czech Republic and Iran, the six teams that have qualified for the quarter-finals are Italy, Belgium, Poland, Türkiye, USA and Bulgaria.

Accordingly, the quarter-final matches will be Italy - Belgium, Poland - Türkiye (taking place on September 24), USA - Bulgaria and Czech - Iran (taking place on September 25).
