According to the Guardian , during the match between Albania and Italy on June 16 (Italy won Albania 2-1), Albanian fans mocked their Italian opponents by breaking spaghetti in half in front of them.

This unique way of cheering continued during the Austria vs France match on June 18. Austrian fans broke baguettes (a type of bread that is a symbol of France) in front of The Blues fans.

In Italian and French culinary culture, breaking spaghetti and baguette in half is considered a taboo. Therefore, this method is often used whenever someone wants to annoy the people of these two countries.

Germany is expected to welcome more than 600,000 international tourists and 1.5 million overnight stays during Euro 2024 this year.

Tourists flocking to Germany are entertaining themselves with “food wars”. Of course, this is just for fun, not a big waste of food. However, this war is just as dramatic as the matches.

Besides mocking iconic foods on the streets and in stadiums, many fans also brought banners to the field.

"Fondue is better than goulash," read a fan's banner during the Switzerland-Hungary match on June 15.

Fondue is a dish of melted cheese in a hot pot, served with bread, also known as cheese hotpot. This is a famous dish in Switzerland.

Goulash is a Hungarian soup made from stewed meat and vegetables. It is an old and famous dish of Hungarian cuisine.

Another banner with the message: "Kielbasa is better than gouda", came from a Polish fan during the match against the Netherlands on June 16.

Kielbasa is a meat sausage from Poland, very popular in the meals of this country. Gouda is a type of cheese from the Netherlands.

However, food wars sometimes backfire on those who start them. Albania lost to Italy after breaking spaghetti and Austria was defeated by France after breaking baguettes.

Still, the "fun" food fights are much better than violent clashes between fans. This year, apart from a few clashes in the city of Gelsenkirchen, there have been few incidents of hooliganism.
