1. For a long time, the two words "drugs" have always made everyone shudder with fear whenever they are mentioned. Because when talking about drugs, we not only mention a terrible addictive substance but more worryingly, we also mention the tragic and heartbreaking social tragedies that come with it. Those tragedies are not few.
For example, the story was widely reported in the press in 2012. At that time, public opinion was extremely shocked and outraged by the murder that killed two 7-month-old children and seriously injured four people in Long Tan commune, Nhon Trach district - Dong Nai . The cause was that Pham Van Manh (23 years old) was high on drugs and used a knife and hoe to slash randomly from his house to his neighbor's house.
Or the serious crime that occurred at 10pm on May 31, 2012, also had drugs as the culprit. The perpetrator was Mr. Vo Tuan Dung (63 years old, living in Dong Da district - Hanoi ), the victim was his son - Vo Tuan Cuong (34 years old).
Mr. Dung and his wife have two sons, Cuong is the eldest but he loves to play more than study. When he was in high school, Cuong became addicted to drugs. To save his son, Mr. Dung and his wife took Cuong to many places for drug rehabilitation, even shackling and chaining him, but after a while, Cuong became addicted again. In 2010, Cuong committed the crime of illegal drug trafficking and was sentenced to 28 months in prison by the Dong Da District People's Court. In May 2012, Cuong was released from prison, his addiction was worse, he often stole things from home to sell to satisfy his addiction. When he ran out of money, Cuong would vandalize, curse, and beat his parents to demand money. The whole family never had a day of peace.
On the evening of May 31, Cuong came home and demanded from his father: “You have to give me the money.” Mr. Dung said he didn’t have any money, so Cuong immediately yelled: “Do you want to die?” Then he grabbed the lock on top of the fish tank and rushed to hit Mr. Dung on the head. When Mr. Dung grabbed the lock and fought back, Cuong pushed him back towards the stairs and continued to attack.
With all his strength, he pushed his son to the ground and then grabbed the lock and hit him repeatedly on the head, as if to vent all the frustration, anger and pain of a helpless father in front of his disobedient, disobedient son. When he regained consciousness, he saw Cuong lying motionless. In pain for killing his son, he called the local police to confess his actions...
There are countless tragedies caused by drugs, each of which is heartbreaking and painful...
2. Back to the case of functional foods containing drugs that Hanoi police have just discovered.
In mid-July, through appraisal work, the Criminal Techniques Department - Hanoi City Police discovered in the area some old types of drugs, but "disguised" as functional foods with the effects of beautifying the skin, curing cancer...
The police agency said that these drugs were accessed through products called “Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum CBD TINCTURE” and “Lazarus Naturals RELIEF + RECOVERY CBD MUSCLE GEL” . These “banned goods” were disguised as health care products, but inside contained Delta-9-tetrahydrocanabinol (THC). According to the authorities, this is a drug that is dangerous to human health, as well as social security.
Specifically, the brown solution sample inside the brown glass bottle with a black plastic cap labeled "Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum CBD TINCTURE 1500mg CBD 50 mg CBD per ml" , contained in a rectangular paper box labeled "Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum CBD TINCTURE 1500mg CBD 50 mg CBD per ml" type 30ml, contains the drug Delta-9-tetrahydrocanabinol, volume: 30ml.

3. Drugs are a threat to the whole society. The consequences and tragedies that drugs leave behind are extremely serious, not only for addicts and their families but also for the whole community. However, from this case of disguised drugs, we can see that drugs still infiltrate people's lives very easily.
When the incident occurred, to warn the people, Hanoi City Police asked everyone to actively participate in the fight against drug-related crimes, closely coordinate with the police force and relevant agencies in the fight against drug-related crimes. At the same time, people need to boldly report organizations and individuals who illegally store, buy, sell, and use drugs to the local authorities where they reside.
The Food Safety Department said that through data search, currently no organization or individual has received the dossier of the above products. At the same time, it is recommended that consumers who have information about the above two products should immediately provide it to the authorities for handling in accordance with the law. In particular, relevant authorities have advised people to be vigilant with functional foods containing narcotics such as Delta-9-tetrahydrocanabinol.
Thus, it seems that the responsibility to eliminate and protect ourselves from the threat of drugs hidden in functional foods is weighing heavily on the shoulders of the people, each consumer. The biggest message given at this time is probably just: Be a vigilant and smart consumer.
But obviously, with something as dangerous as drugs, with increasingly sophisticated methods of evasion, disguise, and disguise from the subjects, the vigilance or intelligence of consumers is not enough. Try using the phrase "drugs disguised as functional foods" to search, it is easy to see a series of different search results appear. Headlines like "Dismantling a drug trafficking ring disguised as functional foods" are no longer rare in the press. That shows that similar incidents have happened for a long time.
The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04, Ministry of Public Security ) once said that in recent times, in the world and in Vietnam, there have appeared two types of disguised drugs, which are "Functional foods containing drugs and drugs mixed and packaged in the form of food and drinks" .
In recent times, people have taken advantage of the situation to secretly bring marijuana into Vietnam to distribute and use, leading to poisoning, such as in Ha Long (Quang Ninh). Specifically, the case of selling marijuana cakes on the internet in Hanoi was promptly discovered and eliminated by authorities in December 2019; the case of a group of students in Hoanh Bo (Quang Ninh) using candy containing drugs and being poisoned and having to be taken to the emergency room in October 2021; the case of selling mango juice containing drugs in Ho Chi Minh City in October 2020; the case of selling chocolate containing drugs in Dong Anh, Hanoi...
To prevent this type of crime, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department said that in the coming time, it will synchronously implement many solutions such as: Coordinating with functional agencies such as customs and market management to strengthen inspection, detection and handling of goods and foods of unknown origin imported into Vietnam to prevent harm to the community.
Thus, it is clear that up to now, when many cases of “drugs disguised as functional foods” still have the opportunity to recur, the above solutions have not been thoroughly implemented. And thus, relying on the vigilance and wisdom of consumers is not enough.
