On September 9, in response to activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations, with the coordination, support and companionship of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, the Vietnam-Australia Family Association (AVFA) organized the Vietnamese Lantern Festival at Darwin Waterfront.

This is a famous tourist destination in the capital city of Darwin, Northern Territory of Australia. This special event attracted the participation of thousands of people and tourists, contributing to honoring the traditional culture of Vietnam.

The festival is supported by the Northern Territory Government, StudyNT, Charles Darwin University and attended by Northern Territory Premier Hug Heggie, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Enterprise, Jobs and Training Paul Kirby and Opposition Leader Marie-Clare Boothby.

AVFA President Dam Lan Anh shared: "The festival has created a special resonance in Darwin, demonstrating the significant contribution of the Vietnamese community not only in the fields of agriculture and business, but also in organizing unique festivals imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity. We are proud of the success of the event and hope to continue to see the development of the Vietnamese community in Northern Australia.

The highlight of the event was the activity of releasing flower lanterns with the purpose of expressing gratitude and wishing for peace, which was the final activity of the event. The image of flower lanterns on the sea created a unique, magical, beautiful and meaningful look.

The Lantern Festival is an attractive and interesting event not only for the Vietnamese community but also for the Darwin community and tourists visiting the city.

Darwin is the capital and largest city of the Northern Territory of Australia, located on the northern coast of Australia, with a warm climate all year round, unique nature with many national parks, beautiful beaches and cultural diversity.

The Vietnamese community in Northern Australia is approximately 2,500 strong. Vietnamese is the 7th most common language spoken at home (after Aboriginal, Filipino, Greek, Nepali, Chinese and Malay).

Although the Vietnamese community is small in number, it is highly appreciated by local authorities for its positive contributions to the economic development of the State, especially in the mango farming industry.
