Lao Dong newspaper has a series of articles reflecting that the Lo Te – Rach Soi expressway, with a total investment of 6,350 billion VND, has many damaged sections. Lao Dong reporters went to the field and recorded a series of potholes, deep water holes, and rocks scattered all over the road surface of this route.
The road is too bad, making it difficult for vehicles to move, making it difficult for passengers, and posing a risk of traffic accidents. Drivers and passengers complain, with some saying this is “the worst road in the West”.
The expressway, which cost VND6,350 billion and was only completed and put into operation for 3 years, is now severely damaged, which is unacceptable. In October 2023, many damaged sections of the route appeared and were repaired by the construction unit.
The highway was repaired by patching, the road surface was uneven, not safe and not stable, not sustainable. Therefore, just a few months later, many points on the road were peeling off again, sinking, creating many deep holes, potholes, and craters.
This time it is not a patch, but an investment and upgrade project with a total investment of about 750 billion VND, starting at the intersection between Vam Cong bridge and National Highway 91 bypass in Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city, the end point connecting to Rach Gia bypass in the Southern coastal corridor, Kien Giang province. The investment scale includes asphalt concrete pavement and completing the traffic safety system in compliance with National Technical Regulations.
May I ask, when building this highway with a total investment of 6,350 billion VND, did it comply with National Technical Regulations or not? If it did, why did it break down after only 3 years and have to be repaired many times?
The My Thuan Project Management Board said that according to the signed contract, the completion time of the investment project to upgrade the road surface of Lo Te - Rach Soi route is the end of October 2025. So it will be more than a year before people have a highway of the right quality for convenient and safe travel.
The people of the West have been waiting for the highway for a long time, and one more year is fine. What people are concerned about is whether this first investment in upgrading the highway will be of good quality and stable, or will it break down again after a while like before.
More than six trillion VND was spent on building roads, but they keep getting damaged and need to be repaired, costing more money, and the people feel sorry for them.
